Update time - rear sway bar mounts completed and 26mm Jap sway bar now bolted on - see if you can guess what car it was from (it was a front sway bar on the doner car)

Rear brakes cleaned and painted ready for installing - the smaller round discs above the backing plates are 12mm thick rear stub axle spacers

Good job Chris.
If you plan on "dumping it real low, check the clearance to the fuel filler pipe mate. Will discuss on your next visit!!

That's what I like to see. Someone else who refuses to pay $$$ for an aftermarket sway bar when it's so easy (and cheap) to fit something from the wreckers.Originally posted by foc64 View Post
Looks like it was ment to be there, very "factory finish"

love the magna sway bar idea.
how did you go with the mounting of it? [the mounts more specifically] Looks like you've used new bushes aswell, are they magna or golf items?

Bushes are 26mm universal Poly sway bar bushes (can't remember the brand), for mounts I've used the original Mitsu****ty units as a starting point and cut/lengthened them to suit the MK1 beam. Both retaining bolts have high tensile nuts welded to the backside of the mounting holes to save the grief of trying to hold a nut on while I tighten up the bolt. The only thing that needed a little thought about was how to attach the eye end of the bar to the rear beam, a few pieces of 5mm thick flat bar fixed that along with a few gussets and a little welding - I'll take a few close ups on the week end and put them up here.

I just picked one of these bars up from center road wreckers, along with a petrol instrument panel and a bunch of other bits and pieces. They only charged $50 for the lot, cheers mate!
So a bit of welding is needed for the link ends?
Thanks for the inspiration!Last edited by hiho; 09-05-2009, 03:07 PM.Beige 79 Mk1 GLD White 76 Mk1 LS 3 door

Update time -been a while but work gives me money if I attend - all helps get a little more done on the orange beast:
Now on wheels with low coil overs (low for now)

Down we go in the weeds

New master cylinder and Cordoba booster

That's it for now - next job is to make it go as quick as it looks, stay tuned.
