  • Dash out to search for possible shorts (headlight switch blew), fixed the wiring up to make it less likely to short and more tidy (+soldered broken dash light)
Cleaned heater box out (30yrs of dead leaves!).
Tracked a water leak back to the inside passenger guard.
Glued a crack in the lower dash with some hot glue.

the result - MAN - i cannot believe how damned sticky the car is! i have NEVER in my life driven a vehicle that responds so beutifully to driver input!

can i just say - this foux-pas about having control arms past horizontal - i can't fault it myself. mine are quite a ways past horizontal and the car handles absolutely wonderfully!.... its possible that because of the large aftermarket front swaybar the characteristics of my car are different from a car without the swaybar...
      Unbelievable isn't it?
When I did similar to the front end of mine it felt like a new car
And even more satisfying when you do it yourself

      • New tyres yesterday. Nothing too amazing; just new rubber for the stock steelies but it feels noticably better - smoother handling, braking, even accelerating, just smoother all round, and lighter steering too.

Now I think it's time to replace the worn tie rod and hopefully it will feel even better (and fingers crossed nothing else in the front needs replacing...for now).

              • Has anyone replaced a CV boot with a 'split' type replacement? Mine has split and I am too lazy to remove the hub.

I installed the child car seat for a trip to Bunnings with the 2 year old and he loved every minute of it.

You dont have to remove the hub and proper boots are the best.

                        • Started my pet Diesel MK1 Garden Gnome for the first time in 3 months.

Took two batteries and a couple of hours but it eventually fired.

Now everything smells like McDonalds thanks to the biodiesel the previous owner was so fond of.

Imagine having the contract on McDonalds oil? Crazy volumes must be discarded.

I have a question Pete, how do you decompress a diesel to turn it over by hand, like in a petrol removing the spark plugs - is there a way in a diesel?

Drive it 750,000km without a service, that seems to have removed all signs of any compression from my diesel.

Apart from that I'm not really sure - Pull the glow plugs out?
