Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • Swapped out the loaner clutch cable from Golf Man. Here's a pic of the one that snapped. It had gotten right through the tube before It finally went.

        Thanks again Josh.

I only snapped 3 shots, here is the closest to side on.

I also need to recoat it as I think that I have missed some spots with the varnish... When it rained you could see where it wasn't...

I have 3 more major tasks to complete and then I will leave it alone I think - so hope to have it done by end of Feb.

              • - Single headlight
                - Phat Euro wheels with stretch
                - Altitude drop and that would be one uber cool Mk1

                  • Tried to clean the windows but only succeeded in making them dirtier.

Tried to fix a faulty tail light - result:
*tail light fixed, but brake light on the other side now not working
*smashed indicator light while trying to remove rear cluster
*more than half an hour spent in the twilight cleaning light globes and their sockets, and testing them
*cranking father who was already cranking an not in the mood, not to mention aghast at how simple things on VWs can be right ****s, I mean so fiendish.

So how do you remove and refit the rear clusters easily with breaking anything or loosing your cool??

i dont know how to do anything on a mk1 without losing your cool! hahaha

last week, fixed exhaust mount fitted by "specialist" and broke twice, so no more rattles = me happy.
painted interior trims black - much better.
new smoked iron cross headlights on while back and old painted grille back on, badgeless grille and crystal lights probably go on green 4dr.
rear louvre off - also go on 4dr, and maybe mudflaps too.
ditched the plastic arches off beige and looks heaps better.

Ain't that the truth Every tried replacing the plugs on an aircooled beetle? Not fun. Even better/worse is replacing the wiper motor in said car?? That took my dad and I (mostly my dad) over 7 hours over about 3cold winter's nights.

Anyway, today I finally put my VWW sticker on as well as my Join the Golf Club sticker which perhaps isn't positioned entirely perfectly.

                        • haha, man i hate that! get a sticker on an then look at it and then its noooot quiiiite right eh, dips a little at one end, or air bubbles! arrrgh! hate em! lol

                          anyway,
recently chucked a 24mil rear sway on the old beige thing, and the improvement in handling is unreal! a little more taily, but turns in harder and stays flat through the corner. love it.
so thought id better recommend Selbys for sway bars to all mk1 owners that love hookin into the twisty stuff!

other than that, bit more drill action in the spare wheel well the other day. get that back n por15 it like everything else in there haha.

                          • On Sunday I;

Replaced all of the exhaust hangers,
Replaced the clutch cable and adjusted the clutch pedal,
                            Adjusted the accelerator cable,
Ground out 6 or 8 rust spots around the place,
Bogged up a hole near the drivers side tail light that was leaking,
Cut out some rust in the foot well.

                            • Hey Dom, the swaybars are good but they break the mountings off the body in no time mate. Those "mountings" were only put there to carry the body along the assembly line as are the 2 round holes in the section behind the front arch area.
I ran the GTI and selbys rear bars in competition but reinforced the brackets on the body for the selbys bar after getting black flagged during a race at Baskerville when the flaggies saw it flapping around!

This is too true, I remember doing a pizza delivery (yes, in my mk1) and the rear sway bar hanging down the the mount scraping on the road.

                                Def re-inforce it Dom
