Wow. I didn't think it was possible from what I'd read to mis fuel VW diesels.
"Beginning with 2013 vehicles, VW redesigned its fuel fillers to accept only diesel nozzles. Gasoline nozzles are smaller than diesel nozzles. But with one of the new TDI fuel fillers, if a driver tries to insert a gasoline nozzle instead of a diesel nozzle, the fuel tank gate will remain closed"
    Is this not true?

Yep my wife did this this to a diesel mark 6 highline did not start it thank god

I pushed it across the road to the ultratune that was on other corner got tank drained filled with diesel and away she went cost was steep as i had to get them to drop what they were doing to fix it
But so long as motor was not started or run just drain tank fill with new diesel and count yourself lucky

When I was filling at my local about a week ago there was someone there putting a mk6 tdi wagon on a towtruck right in the middle of the forecourt.
Pretty sure I know what happened there

Ha ha fought this battle in 2007 with plenty of enthusiasts, then I was into heavily modding GM's finest and drag racing them.

I put ANY 98 fuel in it usually Caltex Vortex , The 7-Eleven 98 fuel at the time was Shell Optimax without the Lubrizole additive which sometimes specced out at 100ron. The BP Ultimate for a long time was the same as the Mobil 98 but with a different additive in Sydney. It came out of the same tank just had different additives in it sometimes. The 95 fuels get shared and swapped by the majors with additives being the only difference. There are exceptions to this and depends on where you live and which is the closest Refinery/Terminal.

I strictly use Caltex 95/98 from 1 site as I know they have high turnover and any water is regularly removed from their tanks. All of the big company sites have monitors to check for this.

I was under the impression that Australia only had one remaining refinery (in WA), and that the vast majority of our fuels were imported already refined.

Petrol into a modern diesel will generally kill it, stone cold dead. And your insurance company won’t have a bar of it.

what I find interesting is the lock on many diesel bowsers (warning label press to release etc), while no such lock exists on petrol bowsers. Yet petrol is much more volatile. And diesel into a petrol tank won’t hurt anything, will just run like a pig.

although I have tested the current VW mis-fuelling prevention device in my diesel filler with a petrol bowser (that is asking for trouble imo), I can confirm that trying to add any kind of additive is a right pain in the arse because the misfuelling device stops you even putting the neck of the additive bottle down the filler
              Cheers

BP Bulwer Island in Brisbane closed about 3 years ago. Now owned by Caltex next door, so Brisbane still have the Caltex refinery going. It supplies all fuel (all brands) in QLD now is my understanding.

You still have Altona as well but it would be a brave soul to suggest one brand is better as they share their fuel with each other.

Yep the only difference is the additive package they put in for the premium fuels but all normal fuels are the same

As a tanker driver I would tell guys that and they still swear that one brand was better, when your loading you can see at some terminals the additive going in and where it's coming from. Company brand fuels use the same additive for 95 and 98, The non big brand fuels usually only have base 98/95 without the additive.
