Ahhh, if there is no real prospect of a HPFP issue in my 2012 Yeti I shall sleep better because I find pushing the boundaries for the purpose of emissions reduction and better economy, has the potential to make my diesel anything BUT economic in the out-of-warranty long run.
Based on past experience, if it was a Honda, I would not be so concerned.
But, it's a VAG product and unless you can write-off your loses as a business expense or, like me, retired, it's another matter entirely.
I bought it during an 'old stock' clearance sale (manufactured 1/12 reg 2/14) I could resist it's attraction but that didn't mean I completely trust VW engine/transmissions as an economic proposition out of warranty.
Cars are just white goods unless you're an auto tech wizard these days and 99.99% aren't.
I've always been a 'preventative maintenance' home mechanic and never had dealership servicing with any Japanese vehicle I bought because they were boringly reliable.
VAG products are certainly not boring.

I'm surprised you aren't using 2SO as I would imagine that most who do use it are doing so for the very reasons you mention. Not just for any immediate benefits but also as a long term insurance policy by providing extra lubrication and cleanliness throughout the fuel and conbustion system.

        W e l l l - I might rpt might once out of warranty.
My fundamental issue is that all fuels are the product of industrial chemists who proport to be experts in their field serving engine manufacturers with critical issues to be resolved to avoid bankruptcy.
Injector 'scuffing' (noise?) may be reduced with an additive but sometimes there may be other consequences resulting.
I started a thread relating to CR engines to find out, in a crude statistical sense, who has done the highest trouble free kms with these VAG engines with/without additives.
        Therein lies the proof
Its interesting to note dealerships have for many decades recommended their special additive for engine oil which they profited from, but not these days.
It may relate to their fear of emissions legislation and/or losing their factory backing .......who knows?.
I just wish more people would respond with their high km experience after all that's why most of us have diesels - for their longevity, or is that a sick joke these days?.

        • I've been using 2SO in my Bluemotion from DAY 1. No issues at all.

If it's worth doing, the sooner the better. I have read and experienced enough to convince myself but it's up to everyone to make their own choice.
I like diesels for the torque and economy. Petrol engines last so long these days they might be a better choice long term, especially with their relative simplicity and improving economy.

I'm tempted by the 2016 Focus RS for a bit of practical fun.

              Still under warrant?.
              How many kms now?.
              One owner?.
              Stop/start or country roads?.
Brand of fuel used if specific?.

We have a second car with an engine that literally blows my mind.
In every sense it's a diesel that burns petrol.
Its a mere 1.2 turbo triple siamised wet sleeve all aluminium 96kw 230nm Peugeot 308 with an Aisin 6 speed with automated clutch which give 20km/L (5L/100km) over its 11,500km so far.
I'm staggered with max torque at 1750 (95% fm 1500)......it never drops out of 6th on motorway hills, just like a diesel and journos don't have a clue.
No wonder Peugeot are reported to be withdrawing diesels from Australia.
For me, a diesel is now for towing only.

                • Just looked it up and it looks like a good car and another example of why buy a diesel these days?

                      So not fully run-in yet.
Im still looking for 'hero' km stories without any issues involving a CR engine.
