Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

Yeah couple weeks and back on road, as long as clutch isn't to worn from having 140xxx km's on it and I have to replace that too

      • So it's looking to be a dmf failure as the gearbox came out and clutch has lots of play
These are known to **** themselves but never thought it would be as big as what I had
Ordered a clutch last night anyway from Darkside as I was going to change it all while gearbox was out anyway, this one holds 510nm

        • Good choice.

          • haha yeah I forgot to mention it
Still runs a DMF but the SMF get a bit of gearbox chatter they are for big power cars (I'll never be at huge power/torque)

            • So is the DMF stronger on the 510Nm clutch plate compared to a stock one?

              Comment

              • doesn't mention the dmf as being stronger, just the clutch disk and pressure plate
not sure if the oem part is a sachs part?

                • This car is actually tastefully done compared to that other guy on this forum. Goddamn, that car is a POS.
                  Well done.

                  • That = TRUTH!

What's the euro equivalent of rice?

                    Comment

                    • 'Rice' 'Ricer' is there to stereotype Asian made cars and perhaps the race of people that drive them. It's also a common food/trend between all Asian countries.

There is no real food that's common between European countries, but Bankruptcy is.

"Man, that guy's car is so bankrupt".
"Hahahahaha, that's such a bankrupt car".

                      • The way I have always understood the etymology was that Asians initially, put over the top, cosmetic crap on their cars, and it was called rice because it was what, stereo typically, only Asians ate.

Further on from that, it became the word for the stuff added on, not the person or type of car that was involved

Moral of the story is, don't put crap on a euro car. Ze Germans didn't spend hours and millions in development for you to ruin it with something thought up by a douchebag.

                            • Pulled out my old box and had a 2nd hand box swapped over for it.Took it to Wolfsburg Automotive up near Geelong and the guy told me the gears were all smashed to pieces (was expecting this) in mine so there was no way to really reco it on the cheap. but I did luck out on the box I swapped it over for anyway as they only had one of my type of box and it had a new bearing installed so it's not just a complete 2nd hand box
