103kW/125kw TDI PD Piezo Siemens injector failure thread

  • Hi Guys, new to this forum but been on the other vw forums for years. Looking at trading my MkV GTI for a Passat CC TDI 09 model (3CC MY10). Been looking around trying to see if this injector problem will affect the Passat CC TDI?
    DO I steer clear or take the plunge on the Passat CC?
    Any help or advice is appreciated.

    • I certainly wouldn't touch a PD or early CR.

      • Nothing wrong with my pd after the fix more than doubled the amount of original kms without issue

              'looked after' was cheap to do in the 'good ol' days' but it's far more complex for the average DIYer now.
              Vastly more expensive electronic sensor based systems each one being the potential weak link making high mileage the feeling of a ticking time bomb.
              They depreciate quickly as new cars keep coming down in price (in real terms) and quickly become unviable when they start giving high tech problems.

                  And that is exactly my point.
                  The modern car is under pressure to achieve more and more with every succeeding model thus relying on more and more sensors acting on more and more sub-units of the entire transmission chain.
                  As ORC of new cars keep coming down, in adjusted terms, and retail profits keep being trimmed, the service/spare parts divisions come under even more pressure to return greater profits within a dealership.
                  The dealerships can't keep expensive low volume items on their shelves because they have to pay interest on them so you can be off the road for weeks/months.
                  The cheapness of new cars is destroying used values ......increasing component costs alone quickly meets declining trade in valuations (emission systems have a ten year design life) and that's what makes them white goods.

                    In 1994 paid $23,700 for a '93model Nissan Pulsar Q.......it had a small 'wing' on the hatch and a tacho a modern, strong, body, man AC and NOTHING else.
                    20years later a Golf 90 TSI DSG drive away is ~$1000 more with a list of 'extras' too much to list incl DSC/ESP and all those airbags..etc etc
                    with the China FTA now it's all one way for 'old' cars.

                        • 2008 GT TDI, extensively modified, mostly experimental, "wonder what will happen" DIY.
                          On my second DPF gurney flush quite successfully
                          205000kms ready for second major service over Chrissy
                          Has run well into 500 torx and on water meth
                          Driven in a spirited fashion
                          On the revised injectors
                          Still gives a lot of cars a scare, and more important me a grin
                          Amazingly still going strong, but I am returning it to stock parts for longevity now.

                          Old diesels were more reliable, but SO underpowered, give me high tech anyday.

                          For the money these things trade at, it's a bloody bargain. I doubt my planned MK6 TDI will excite me as much.

                            Found this forum by searching for engine issues with 2007 Passat diesel after my car suddenly lost power to accelerate while I was driving it yesterday afternoon and the "exhaust" light came on for engine fault. Car will not turn over at all and had it towed home cos it was a Saturday afternoon.

                            Although it is a August 2007 build, the car was first registered by the dealership in 2009 and we bought it in May 2010 while it still had two years factory warranty and had 19,000 on the clock.

                            It has been driven for almost 6 years now (first by dealership, and almost 5 years by me) and regularly serviced (last service was two months ago at 70,000) and it has just passed 72,000 km.

                            Am very concerned that I have a major issue on my hands after reading posts to this forum as it appears there is a known problem with the injectors, but rather than issuing a recall, Volkswagon Australia ran a "campaign" to contact owners (23H9) in 2013. Have a missed the boat with this "campaign?

                            I'll need to start calling tomorrow morning (Monday) to get the car fixed.
                            ANY ADVICE???????????
                            If I have to pay to have the injectors replaced, it sounds like they cost around $4000 mark, and the car is only worth about $7000-$10,000 trade in according to Redbook (although it assumes 120-200,000km on the clock).

                              $4K simply for injectors.............that's what makes the modern car 'white goods'.
