I've had my 06 Jetta TDI/DSG since November. Getting 800km around town and at Christmas went from Sydney to Brisbane on a tank, avg 5.2l/100 on the way up and 5.3 on the way back. She's got about 8000km on her now.
As my first VW and my first diesel, I'm still impressed and happy with my purchase.
Macca - although the high flow (large) nozzels don't fit, you can dribble in fuel, just watch for it to froth up. You'll take 5 mins for 10-15 litres, but it beats running out.
Smartest thing I've seen - a Brisbane servo - had both hi-flow and regular hoses on the one pump.....should be more of it.
cheers..scott.

This is another of those things on my list of "things to fix", the odometer and trip meter in my Mk1 are busted, they tend to sick on 9/10ths every time round.
But last trip I went on I did Coffs Harbour to Campbelltown which is about 600kms on 30L, so ~5L/100 K's or less.
This is in a 79 GLD with a 5 speed.

my mk1's beutiful to drive.... apart from the noise, the water that comes inside, the barely adequate brakes and rusty 30 year old shell.
it feels like the best thing in the world.'07 Touareg V6 TDI with air suspension

2005 2.0TDi Sportline Golf - love the way you can drive it hard around town and use all that beautiful torque, make screetchy noises off the line in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears (DSG) and still walk away with less then 6.5l/100k -
BUT
IF you get stuck in trafik, you get 8+l/100k..... might as well do the rat runs and circumnavigate the globe than sit in trafick!!!
Incidentally, my Satnav (Navman N60i) tells me CONSISTENTLY that the speedo is exactly 10% optimistic - and this error corrects the fuel consumption calculations on the trip comp too!! (Have actually verified Satnav speed at 60, 80 and 100kmh via trafick cop mate!Brisbane

My 2.0TDI has about 8500 km's on clock now, my run to and from work is a pain, stop start, 50kmh zones 2nd 3rd gear crapola. It gets around 6.6 to 8.0. I can never get a run long enough for it to get into a good gear...
On the freeway it get's down to 5.0 is the best Ive seen so far.

Dad's Mk3 tdi used to easily get 5l/100km's when just going to work and back, which is down the monash then down princess highway, and usually it's about 6l/100km's, it's gone down over the years since bought as I'm sure the intercooler isn't running as efficiently as it should be abd the oil changes are too far apart among other things, but if I ever get it, it will be back down to those low economy marks, oh and the 6l/100km figure is with hard launches and stuff like that.
n our N/a 2.4 T4 transporter, we get 10l/100km's out of a tank, and slightly less when towing our hovercraft and other gear, but it revs it's head off in 5th at 3000rpm and when towing it won't go past 100km's, even without towing but with a full van, you can have the foot flat to the floor and barely do 110km's, downhill!Last edited by Volvo Driver; 11-05-2007, 06:54 PM.88' Volvo 760GLE

i've just been naughty...
way back from work on the freeway, thought i'd see how slow the old girl goes.... relatively flat, i had about 400m of road until the next cars - the old 1.5 n/a managed 145, still had plenty of pedal left too!'07 Touareg V6 TDI with air suspension
