Just had my 75000 service and was told i had a fault code in the Evap canister, it has been reset but it will occur again (engine fault light will appear on the dash!) so i need to have something replaced. I think max cost is $400 but has anyone come across this? apparently quite common when you get to these k's

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yep mines gone in my Mk6 GTI as well (same km's as you). Gives me a check engine light every now and then. Have ordered a new charcoal canister and waiting for it to turn up.

Bold Sport sell the charcoal canisters for around $110 USD, but i was looking on ebay and found one (from china so who knows...) for $44 brand new. It took over a month for it to arrive and it looks like they tried to deliver it today while i was at work - so ill have to get it from the post office tomorrow. Give me a day or two to install it and ill let you know whether its ok.

The one i got off Ebay: Carbon Charcoal Canister Hose FOR VW Golf Jetta Audi Seat Skoda 1K0201797AE | eBay
I normally don't buy parts from china but the charcoal canister is a very basic part - so i thought it was worth a go.

Fault code in Evap canister and N80 valve
Just updating incase its of any help - new (ebay sourced) charcoal canister has been fitted for over a month now and so far so good.
Its not as heavy (assuming less charcoal) as the original one i took out, but it fits perfectly and no error codes so far.

Just had the same issue with my 2011 Golf R. Only 68K. Was asked what type of fuel I used (98 octane). Total bill was $1,003. Had new charcoal canister and N80 valve installed. Was told to take it out for a good thrash. Was told it was due to the short trips that I do.
