Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Note they only accept wire transfer from Oz though. No credit cars.

I bought my Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics from Tire Rack as well, and also received them in 4 days. Incredible service, great prices - highly recommended!

Yep, Tire Rack are the only way to go for Performance Tyres... I will have to choose between Michelin PSS's and Conti's when it comes time to buy....

Andy did you ever get a quote, or find a shop for that matter, that can do the shadow chrome?

My research has found that a) the colour is a proprietary colour that is only available to specialty wheel shops, and b) it's a VERY hard process to get them right.

Even the genuine BMW shadow chrome rims come out inconsistently from the factory because of how difficult a process it is to get the finish consistent on all wheels.

I've also read posts of people paying $400 a rim to get it done. Might as well get a set of OZ Racing for that price!

I have found a few who can do Shadow Chrome and do it extremely well.. albeit expensively.. prices ranged from $280 to $400 per wheel as a painted option...
Shadow Chrome painting is a 3 part system and the paint itself is extremely expensive...
The inconsistencies come from differing batches, production runs or even painters... the issue you may have at a later stage is colour matching...

I have found a Powder Coater who I am going to visit today (Saturday) who tells me he has a "Black Chrome" coating system which is then clear coated with pearl type clear giving pretty much the same effect I will try and get a good picture of the sample part he has..

the company is Craved Coatings - Custom Powder Coating and Exhaust Ceramic Coatings and you can see some of the stuff he does... Candy colours etc so it might be an option. His price is $550 for the set of 4 wheels in Powdercoat with the clear... Clearly this is the most economic option.

I was going to go and see a couple of the other painters this week but I ended up in Brisbane for work and am actually back there next week till Wednesday... so maybe later in the week I will check them out..

They both said they have high gloss gunmetal type colours very similar to Shadow chrome but around $160 per wheel.
Something similar to she_dubs wheel colour would be ideal I think.

Worry about wheel colours etc after you have picked your car up and driven it for a week or 2... lol

Now to find someone to get me pricing on the VMR's.

They are nice, but remember they're reps at the end of the day. Although one of the better reps. For a bit more you could get a proper set of OZ Racing.

You think??? The OZ ULTRALEGGERA are horrendously priced... over $3200 for a set and that was not the lightweight ones...

You could get them for less than that for sure. The VMRs would set you back probably $1600. If you could get a set of OZ for $2700, I'd go the latter for sure. The VMRs are great for what they are, but they are still a rep at the end of the day. Not knocking them, they look fantastic. But not as good as the Ultraleggeras

Dearest price for the VMR V718's in 19x8.5 is $1180 for the set... cheapest price locally for OZ in 19x8 is $3400 a set... If I was going to look at that sort of price I would have to also consider BBS etc...
The VMR's are in the range of having my Talla's re-done so it is a viable option... and for what I want to do they are more than suitable...

Haha it was more as a comparison than correcting anything... that is a huge price difference and while I know the OZ are a superior product... it is way more than I am willing to fork out for just wheels alone.

Agreed. I'm also looking at going with a 255 so no point in painting the tallas.

                              Mmmm. Yummy.
