  • Standard wheel colour...

    Hi All,

I've been enjoying my new toy for a couple of weeks now, and I'd like to change the wheel colour.

I've photoshopped this snapshot with a darker, "gunmetal" colour that I'm keen on.

Can someone give me some advice on how to go about this? ...any recommendations for painters in the western suburbs of Sydney?

    Cheers,

    Adam

Now that looks really nice... much better than black IMO...
I will make some enquiries this week...in the interim have a look at some of the pics in this forum... Scirocco Central • Login

Someone mentioned wanting to see CW with Black... they are on that page... I personally like the Silver with the dark Anthracite...

Yeah that was me haha. I do like the silver too. There was a pic in the link you posted Andy of a CW with black gloss. Maybe was the pic but it didn't look very nice.

The silver one with the anthracite looked mad!

Adam that gunmetal looks mad. The link has a CW with anthracite and a satin finish. That's a winner!

PS Andy, you running aftermarkets, or just the sliver stocks?

Stock Silver for the moment... but I am going to look into that Gunmetal colour...

The CW with Gloss black... yes... they look magnificent in the Showroom or immediately after you clean the car... other than that they tend to be quite dull as the brake dust just sucks the shine out of them... plus you need to make sure your tyres are shiny all the time.

You mean to say you're not going to spend every spare minute you have cleaning your wheels? And you call yourself an enthusiast?!

I'm still deciding on how to do my wheels, paint or powder coat. At the rate it's taking to get some spare wheels for when mine go in for the powder coat.. I might just get them painted.

If only the wheels had the same offset as the Golf R

            I know! I agree.

Question. Pros/cons of painting vs powder? Is painting something that can be easily done?

Luckily I have a friend who has a spare garage. He said I could jack my car up there when I get the wheels done.

I will have you know I carry Quick Detailer in the boot with 2 microfibre cloths... I think at present Anal would be a netter term than Enthusiast.. lol

As for Paint vs Powder coat... with Paint you have a lot more choice of colour and control over the process...plus there is no heat involved. It is far easier to have them repaired when you get some gravel rash...(it will happen).
Powder coat can be repaired... by sand blasting all the coating off... re-priming and re-coating and there is no guarantee the powder batch will be identical either...

My preference will be for painting and then multiple coats of clear... preferably the Ceramic Clear coat.

Ah yes... I have nothing to say on that topic that wouldn't be considered self incriminating.

So basically, since I've already got pot hole damage, despite being super careful with my wheels. I would probably be better off with getting them painted? How long does that process take? Can I go to my normal anal retentive panel beater for it?

Well........... my preference would be to paint them... I am pretty sure it is only a couple of days.,.. as always.. the preparation is the key to a top class job.

Your normal Quality Panel shop should be albe to handle them no worries although I believe there are some specialist places around... Possibly Damian at Final Inspection may know where to get it done...

Really? I think it looks a bit too light for the RB. That and I have an aversion to cleaning my wheels every 3 days lol
