Does anyone know the difference between the privacy glass that comes standard and a tint? Also, is it legal to tint the sunroof darker than the legal tint? As I'm not sure if the mesh cover is enough to block out the sun on a hot day?

Privacy Glass is approximately 35% ... ie legal. Its reflective properties are not up there with a high quality tint but the window area is so small it really isn't a concern.
I have been advised by 3 tint companies now not to tint to Sunroof.. the reason given is there have been some problems with similar roof's (Audi A5 and Passat CC) shattering due to not being able to expand properly because of the tint... in the end it is your choice...
I find the sunblind to be perfect... it allows enough light to lighten up the interior yet it doesn't get hot... and even if it does.. you just tilt the roof... simple.

            Tint-A-Car

            Has anyone used/know of Tint-A-Car?

They have what on the surface seems like a good deal on tinting in Ouffer today :

Have a good read of the Window Tint thread in here... $189 is nothing special... prices range from $100 to $250 depending on who and what is done. Lots of good info...

Yes formula one looks fine but I only paid 160 for the two front windows anyway..... so don't worry about the deal site.

Just had my two fronts tinted with Bolle Green through Tint a Car here in Bendigo, $160 all up.

There is a definite green tinge so we'll see how it cures over the next couple of weeks.

The joys of living in the country......

It just got a little bit more expensive, I found debris under the tint on the passenger side

Went out to book it back in to get re-done and decided to get all the windows done in midnight express as the green just doesn't look right after looking at it for a couple of hours....at least I get a discount.....

I would be careful having all the windows done in the same product.. the rears are Privacy Glass to start with which is already at the theoretical legal limit.
There is a massive amount of info in this thread and in the Golf Mk6 threads... Bottom of post 3 http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...tml#post699315

Hmmmm, the guy I was talking to said it wouldn't a problem as the 35% rule only applied to the fronts.

Is there anyone else who can confirm this while I do some research?

Thanks for your help here Andych, Looks like a lot of people have had success with the Formula One tint from Tint a Car so I'll see how I go on Monday.

                                Reviving this thread...

So.. finally having my windows tinted next week with Car Tint.

Rob inspected the car today as he's never done a Scirocco before, said he'd give it a go without removing the door trim... hopefully the film will hold... if it doesn't.. off to a body shop to remove the trim
MY12 Scirocco R - slightly not stock
