Just got back from the dealer and finally getting the roc next week but they've re-evaluated my trade-in. It was valued at $16k in March, contract signed. And now they did a re-value and came back with $12k and they want me to trade it in for that?
Between now and then I've only added 4,000kms. Is this normal practice? Can they just re-value the car whenever they choose to even though a contract has been signed? Does the terms of the contract allow them to just change the trade-in cost?

Is the Roc being delivered within the excepted time frame? Apart from the 4k in extra travel distance is the tradecin as presented at the signing of the contract?Scirocco: Indium Grey, DSG, pana roof, Sat/Nav, Dynaudio, VWR springs and APR stage 1. Now sold
Arriving April 17 Audi S3 sedan, Panther black, S-tronic, PP2, pano, matrix lights, assistance pack, 40:20:40 seats, mirror pack, light inlays

Originally they said they had the car in-stock and I could have it within the week. That then changed as they didn't put the paper work in fast enough? (that's what they said). So we re-did the contract for a different car coming in for this time frame including the trade-in.
Yep, apart from the 4k km, everything else is the same as when the contract was signed.

when I asked the dealer that exact question (would the trade be same if I waited 3-6months) they said if only difference is kms tradein $ would be same.
would be wrong to change $ on you after you agreed to wait for them to supply its not your fault they couldnt get you the car quickerScirocco R - DSG

You need to push back on this. The dealer is trying to tell you that in just a few months the car has depreciated by 25%. Don't know what your trade is but that seems unlikely. If you have been waiting for e-6 months fot the R then 4k in additional travel would be considered reasonable.
They can re value your trade but if the conract said delivery by x date and your trade is the same as presented when you did the deal then e value placed on the carcshould be honoured.

I see two issues here though:
Firstly, the valuation limitation (14 days) is reasonable but did they intend to deliver you a car in that period? If they did they failed and presumably breached their side of the agreement. Did they make a variation to the contract with you when it was realised you had to wait for your car? Presumably not from what you have said. It would seem there is cause to vary the agreement from both sides.
Secondly, unless the car you were trading in was fresh off the lot somewhere as a new car and you were it with depreciation then how can it be that your car has lost 25% of its value in a matter of a few months. To me that is not a question of right or wrong, just one that simply defies logic on a vehicle worth 16K in the first place.Scirocco: Indium Grey, DSG, pana roof, Sat/Nav, Dynaudio, VWR springs and APR stage 1. I'm looking at Sciroccos with at least Sat Nav as an upgrade. Judging from posts here I could get a NEW car at:
1. Sat Nav, Dynaudio, DSG and Sunroof for about $57,000 Drive Away
2. Sat Nav, Dynaudio, DSG for about $55,000 Drive Away
3. Sat Nav, DSG for about $54,000 Drive Away
There's a 2011 car with 8000km on the clock with Sat Nav and DSG for $44000. By the time I pay stamp duty/transfer duty and rego it will price up to about $46,000. Is $8000 sufficient discount for a used vehicle. It is in immaculate condition and has just had it's 1 year service. Another thing is it doesn't have the Dynaudio upgrade, which may mean another 1-1.5k on audio upgrades if I'm not happy with the standard system.
What do you guys think? I tend to act a bit irrationally when it comes to cars, so your sage advice would be appreciated lol.Last edited by M01lim; 08-10-2012, 10:41 AM.
