The previous MD, Jutta Dierks, has ruled the Scirocco out for OZ. She believe she felt if provided with the same engine as the Golf GTi, it would into the GTi's market, therefore unless VW would offer it with a more powerfull engine she wasn't interest. Doubt that the new MD will chnage her mind.

I met Jutta - she has plenty of "balls" (just ask her husband); but she is a very good business woman & if there is no business case, there is no Sirocco.
She has been promoted to the US in the same role from "little OZ" - that shows you what a good job she (& her team ) did here

Hey, I'm with you. Would have like to see it too in OZ. Not the only "questionable" decission by the head office though. Britain has an "Off-road" version of the Tiguan WTF???

Im watching this one very closely! Be interested to hear how much compliancing would cost if I was to source my own car though.. No doubt as second hand prices tumble more and more people will jump on board.

Certainly a hard price to swallow if the rumoured $50k pricepoint of the golf R is true.

The price may put some people off but if you were looking at a TT, then why not look at the Scirocco?

It has enough power for street use and almost all of it's use would be on the street.
It would also be unlikely to depreciate very much duye to the limited number of imported cars.

Would be a bugger to get body parts for if you had an accident though.

And no it should be around 65-70k... i think from what i read ap paid 70k for it... but he was the 1st one, so the next ones should be cheaper...

Dont get my wrong I would love a scirocco. But the compliancing and import costs inflate the pricing artificially. In other markets it is sold cheaper than the Golf R isnt it? So if you want one you will have to pay a 30k premium! I dont blame the importers for the high costs. Its not cheap to bring a car here.
Just saying that you would have to really really really really want one for that kind dosh. Unfortunately I only really really want one

The import business model will only really make sense once they start depreciating on the second hand car market in my opinion. We could then see a flood of them!
