Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Scirocco one step closer to Australian shores

Melbourne-based importer AVICCO have been given approval to bring USED Scirocco 2.0 TSI and Scirocco R models to Australia. The last remaining hurdle is gaining ADR approval.

AVICCO has a client willing to pay for a car to be brought to Australia from the UK to undergo compliance testing. If that gets signed off, then you should be able to buy a Scirocco in Australia before the end of 2010.

While this is excellent news, I wonder if this will simply force Volkswagen Australia's hand to import the car officially.

They would be exxy, when you consider customs, duty, conversion costs etc. The comparisons I can see are the Nissan GTR and Chevy Camaro. They both turned up under SEVS at around $150k, similar pricing to what Nissan bring in the GTR for now, but the top of the range Camaro is $US34k in California according to the Chevy website.

I'll still be keeping my eyes open!

Probably cheaper to bring one over from NZ rather than the UK, quicker too.

The guy I spoke to at AVICCO indicated pricing would be similar to the GTI. A bit too far away to lock that in just yet, but enough to think pricing may not be too out of control.

That's good, although I do wonder how. Meanwhile, Auto Express has done a comparo Scirocco R v Megane RS250 v S3 v Focus RS.

In England at least the Megane is significantly cheaper that the Scirocco R, and it will be here in July or thereabouts. I recon the 'Roc looks better in pictures, but would have to see them both in the flesh.

                Thanks for the sleuthing, Liam.

He will still have to get it complianced by the workshop that has SEVS approval in Melbourne.

I wonder what the pricing will be...? Since it is produced in RHD, hopefully not as ridiculus as the RHD Import Camaro!!

I reckon the client in Melbourne who will pay to import a sample scirocco is the bloke we bought Beaus rocco Mk2 off. He had imported 2 Mk2s and wrecked another 2 in England and brought all the parts here, most of which are now in my shed

He had been promised a new scirocco by his wife if he sold the 2 old ones.

He would have the time and persistance to import one.

if you brought one in as a personal import would it need to go through SEVS , assuming there was a workshop in place for compliancing already?

I don't believe SEVS is required if it a personal import... You used to have to replace seat belts, put in anti-intrusion bars and the like, but with all the safety things these days I imagine you may just have to put in a child seat anchoring point if there isn't already one.

Personal Import you just have to prove ownership and usage for more than 12 months overseas. Pretty sure the UK spec Scirocco would meet all ADRs with no problems.
