Noisy engine or is that just me

Morning,
I’ve started noticing that the engine on my Scirocco is noisy (rattles) when the car is at NOT. Sounds like tapper noise or timing chain. It’s not there when I start the car first think in the mornings. Not sure if the car has a chain or belt. Anyone know?

It drives fine and all the instruments are normal so a little confused why it would be getting noisy when hot. Any ideas what could be causing the rattle or is that a normal thing for the 2.0 turbos?

These are known to be a bit noisy but if it sounds noisier when hot I'd get it checked just to be on the safe side.

Can you post up a short video to demonstrate the sound? How many km's on the engine?

The engine in the Rocco R has a timing belt, but on the other side of the engine, the 2x camshafts are joined by a chain and tensioner, so its possible something isn't right there.

If the car has a few km's under its belt (say 60k or more) it might be a good idea to change the cam follower on the HPFP which is about a $80 part (its a wear item, so its designed to wear out over time). Thanks for your reply, Lucas. It was really useful. The car is a 2012 with 69k on the clock. I did a search on YouTube on how to replace the follower. Easy enough to do provided you have the right tools which I don't. Might have to leave that for the service guys. I'll see if I can do a video over the weekend an upload it to the forum.

I took the car in to the Euro specialist this morning. The guy that checked it out for me had just come from a VW dealer so I'm guessing he knew his stuff. Anyway, he said it sounded fine & is normal for the 2.0t to sound like that.

The car is booked in for a service on the 4th so will get them to do the follower at the same time. Might have to wait a few more weeks for the Racingline upgrade now.

That'll probably be the dual mass flywheel if it changes with clutch pedal.

Hey mate, mine is a dsg and I did some research on the net and found that the hpfp cam follower adds to the noise. Got that replaced and it did quite the noise but it's still there. Apparently, that's normal for these engines.

They’re definitely not a quiet engine but as above recommend replacing the fuel pump cam follower as preventative measure.

A week I’ve got odd noises !
