Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • BC Coilover MK6 Golf info

    Hey Guys,

Just picked up a MK6 Golf and looking at putting in some BC coils next week

Have used them before on my MK5 Jetta, however for the MK6 they have 2 options.

1 - BC RACING COILOVER SUSPENSION KIT - VW GOLF MK6 (54.5MM STRUT)
BC Racing Coilover Suspension Kit - VW Golf MK6 (54.5mm Strut)

2 - BC RACING COILOVER SUSPENSION KIT - VW GOLF MK6 (STRUT 49.5MM)
BC Racing Coilover Suspension Kit - VW Golf MK6 (Strut 49.5mm)

    I am going to be running wheels 18x8.5 ET35 (F) & 18x9.5 ET35 (R) with max rear camber etc.

This is going to be a aggressive fitment I know, but nothing I haven't done before.

Why is there a strut dimension difference?

Which one do I need etc?

Any assistance would help before purchase.

Thanks for the help - LVD

Dont know specifics for mk6 but different strut sizes are used depending on the spec of the vehicle.

You just need to check you current strut size diameter.

You can measure with a tape or callipers or make a 55mm template and offer it up to one of your struts. If it just fits you need 54.5mm If you have around 5mm of space you need 49.5mm struts.

To make a template take a piece of cardboard and cut a 55mm square out of an edge to leave yourself a 55mm hole.

What type of Mk6 do you have? The GTI, TDI, and R use the 55mm strut, whereas the 77, 90 and 118TSI use the skinnier one.
