G-8VXWWTRHPN Map updates - Discover Pro - VWWatercooled Australia

Announcement

Collapse

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

No, the smaller file includes all of the micro-level street data. To exclude that information would be just plain bonkers.

I can confirm no issues with the latest maps with the smaller file size (373) at my end:

    Explanation on briskoda:

Columbus Map Update 2024-2025 (MIB1/2 HIGH) - Audio, Electronics and Security - BRISKODA

"Yes these slimmed down mib2 high only versions were the preserve of Audi drivers only that got them on the paid mapcare subscription behind a pay wall previously. The versions released on Skoda, VW and Seat were the combined mib 1/2 high release where they could be used in either unit. This release drops the mib1 high support but you must present all folders to the unit. The programmers have called the directionarys mib1 and mib2 but it needs both, just they got a rubbish directory naming convention.

We had already seen a few months back the mib2 high only release of 370 in the Audi form curtesy of Russians boards and mibsolution.one. This file appears to be identical to that one except it has some additional checksums in it. The ones with the additional checksums are by country. I only checked the UK on these which demonstrated the early release of 370 was the same as this 370 for the UK once you ignored the additional checksums. VW must use a different way of manufacturing these files from the source materiel with more checksums or they changed their processes if it all comes from the same place.

The main thing is not to get excited by the drop in file size. It's fine it's for mib2 highs only. Columbus, Seat Plus and Discover Pro and those Audi mib2 highs. Present all files as you have always done.

You can use a Mac but you must use CleanMydrive to remove the Mac file garbage off the drive once copied before putting it in the unit else it will fail the integrity signature check."

Thank you for the explanation and it makes sense. It will therefore work on the later PRO 2.5 units as well I guess.

The info on briskoda is pretty useful - and it emphasises what you've consistently mentioned regarding the file format/structure etc. If one aspect goes awry, she doesn't work!

Yeah, steer away from the macs!!

        • OK so I think I understand this. The key is slimmed down mib2 high only versions". I have a Pro MIB1 unit. How do I update my maps?

                          • Well have tried to install it the way I usually do and so far no luck Put it in the car and let it idle for 40 mins with no luck.

last map I unzipped it to the root directory of the USB C stick I have 1200 music tracks on and last time it installed by its self as usual. Deleted that map and put this version on but no go so far.??????????????????????

Your USB stick should be freshly formatted in Windows with NTFS or EXFAT.

You should use 7ZIP in Windows to unsip the files to the root of the USB stick. NO other files.

Put USB stick in and turn on ignition, don't idle for 40 minutes, that's bad for your engine and your fuel bill and doesn't help the update.

There is zero feedback from the system as to progress, which annoys the crap out of me as an IT person, but eventually you will be rewardes with a map version later than you had. Even then, other system updates could still be happening, they say it could take 4 hours.

I succeeded with mine, and my observation was that even when the map file showed newer, the system was quite laggy for some time afterwards. I put my charger onto the battery for the duration and left it for 3 or 4 hours to do it's thing.

Mate have been doing it in VW for 14 years and in Mib 2.5 since 2019 ad Mib 3 since 2021. It ALWAYS WORKED (except once my fault) This time it hasnt Im well aware of requirements for formatting etc.. The last few maps i installed in the KAMIQ I stuck on the stick as i said above and it has worked for several installations. Im not worried about 3 poofteenths of fuel it used, is far better than it sitting there with the ignition on running the battery down and it usually only takes 20 mins to install and yes it doesnt say anything.
In Australia other updates wont be happening as we are not connected to the net and all that can be entered into the system is what is on the USB card, So no firmware updates.
I have yet to find a newer firmware than my 0278, which would also need a SD card to install. I never use 7 zip, have used Win RAR for years without problems. The reason for the lag is that you should go for a drive and let it reorient itself , as you had to with the old RNS 510
Flipper Dog usually gets the correct maps and Im sure its the right one but something is not quite right I had to remove the old map off the stick to put the new one on and it had installed fine and the 1200 music tracks have been on it for 3 years and not prevented maps from loading until now, if in fact it is them and no reason they should as not done it before. my MIB serial is 2G90 35876D in a Skoda
