Lol, could be a check like the needle going zero to max in display.

So my no name unit connected without a hitch and working with no major problems.

Keeping my current E series CAN gateway. The antenna 2 is to 1connector was just an empty socket on one connector so didn't use it, getting only one station on AM but will see how things go. I will get one of those proper 2 is to 1 connector. Two faults on VCDS-intermittent connection, but did not return on clearing.
Do I need to enable digital radio in installation list??

Now going for the rear camera install, wish me luck.

Did you use acc as power source? Could that be the reason? Its on aa soon as you start the car?

        • B6 passat here, how is one supposed to pass the cable through the grommet? From boot into lid to connect the wire to the camera over the licence plate. Have removed round plastic and spring kept boot lid nearly closed but still wire doesn't want to pass through. Any help please.

I've isolated the issue to the reverse signal. I found it gets 0.7v momentarily after moving to ACC. Id guess this is checking for a blown bulb but it's enough to activate the camera mechanism. Also unplugged the camera and confirmed the 0.7v spike is still present.

Might be more than 0.7v if it's a really quick spike but that's all my multimeter registers. Either way, seems like normal behaviour from the car.

Yep, that's the bulb check pulse. You see cars with LED reverse lights often flash because of that too.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Thanks. Guessing it's more that 0.7V if it flashes the LEDs. It's sitting at 0.5V anyway so I'd be surprised if the extra 0.2v is enough to trigger the badge. My multimeter probably isn't quick enough to register the true voltage.

                • @Richmurphy, do you want to put in a low resistance to see if the small voltage fluctuations get ignored?

Finally finished install. Android Auto and Rearview camera with moving lines. Happy day1

                  • Hmm just realised car image not showing up, will go through VCDS

I tried using a 330 ohm resistor I had lying around. The camera didn't open. Unfortunately it didn't open when I engaged reverse either!

Obviously 330 ohm is too high - might check the current draw and work backwards. I'm actually surprised the bulb check didn't fail so I might look closer at that too.

                        • There is also a cold diagnosis back up light option in vcds, you could try disabling that on vcds at your own risk though

                          • I'm sure this question has been asked befoer, but I can't find any info. I've just bought an RCD340, installed it and it's great. The OEM rear camera isn't working as I'm not sure how to plug it in. Is this going to require a new aftermarket camera and an auto-electrician to wire it in or can I do it myself and can I use the OEM camer? thanks

                            • Yes, there should be a yellow connector with a blue pin connector at the end. The pin connector goes under the Speaker jack and the yellow one should link up with your OEM camera.

Sorry not sure what you mean. The OEM camera doesn't have an RCA plug, actually I have no idea what plug or cable belongs to the OEM camera. Are you saying I should buy a new camera and ditch the old one?

New cable that came with RCD 340 that connects 340 to the RCA port on the reverse camera except my OEM camera does have RCA

Remaining plugs from RNS 315 that won't plug into RCD 340G, not sure what they are, large 24(?) pin black plug and blue plug
