  • RNS510 replacement options.

    Hey guys,

My Golf MKV currently has the rns510 installed i believe and im thinking of swaping it over for an aftermarket unit instead that has bluetooth/usb support for my iphone. Anyone got some good suggestions that would give me that functionality?

You can just add an oem Bluetooth/MDI adapter that will accomplish that and remain factory, should you with to go down that path.

To add to kamold's suggestion. My MkV has a 9w7 bluetooth module and it allows for bluetooth media from my iPhone 6 perfectly. I thought about adding the MDI module, but frankly bluetooth works well enough for me. I also have a FIS Link module to give me phone functionality on the red MFD. It's a bit flaky, but works reasonably well. The all up cost of those parts could come to just over $500 (exchange rate is the kicker at the moment) plus the cost of installation.

You need to buy a kit that includes a harness. The harness will include the plug for the new BT unit, which will connect to both the rns and your cars wiring harness.

Here is a nice read for you if you're going down the bluetooth path:
Bluetooth-9w7 module voice control retrofit, swap, install, and FAQ | VW TDI forum, Audi, Porsche, and Chevy Cruze diesel forum

                And the klit itself:

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Does the FIS Link module work with the half height red MFD?

I doubt it as the information takes up the entire full-height screen: but that is not a definitive answer, just an observation. You will need to do your own research or wait for someone more knowledgeable to provide a response.
