  • LED globe error light

Hi all a bit of a strange one, i am making my way changing all the globes in my mk6 over to LED globes but I keep getting an error light for the number plate globes- I have put 3 different sets of led globes in all Canbus/error free globes off eBay but it still puts up error lights on the dash. If I put back in the standard non led globes no error. Each of the globes are from different sellers both in China and Australia.
Is there a special resistor required for the number plate LEDs??

    Thanks

LEDS run lower voltage then standard bulbs thus your monitoring system is thinking the lights are out.. I can't remember what the fix for this is (been awhile since I've seen this issue) perhaps someone can give you a better insight..

Thanks Dubber was aware of that and that's why I had brought special LEF globes with resistors to prevent the error messages. I had other LED globes in the car with no problems/errors messages, just having issues with the number plate lights.

        Not lower voltage, less resistance.

I'm pretty sure you need to do some coding with VCDS to get them to work correctly.

You should be able to disable bulb monitor for the number plates on mk6..can on mk5. PM me if you want me to have a look for you.

have a look in Lucas_R's thread on his GTI. He bought some LED number plate lights from the USA & they are well made & error free.

i went through 3 sets of so called "error free" number plate lights until i found a set that actually worked...

as stated above its probably a good idea to get a brand that has already been proven by another forum member...

Sorry, I should have clarified: Mk6 Rs and GTIs with a later Central Electrics revision (from MY13 from memory) had LEDs from factory (GTIs only in conjunction with bi-xenons); these latest builds could be coded if they'd not had LEDs factory-fitted. The rest of them all require adapters containing resistors. IIRC, TSIs and TDIs never got that particular revision of the CECM.

You definitely can code Mk6s (all models) for LED tails, from CECM 537 and up; build >= week 22, 2009.

Do yourself a favor and just pay a little more and get some CAN bus error free LED's from Jaycar.

At least if the don't work you can take them back. I went through 3 eBay sets before I went to Jaycar and got a set that worked properly.
