  • MIB II Infotainment System for Australia

    Hi all

I've heard that the MIB II Infotainment system is being introduced by VW later this year in Europe and the USA:

Volkswagen to launch CarPlay, Android Auto in Europe and US this year | ZDNet

Has anyone heard whether the same is coming to Australia this year?

I'm just about the place an order for the GTI Performance, and want to be sure about any potential 2015 updates before I commit.

    Thanks

    PontMax

From what I have read MIB II will replace the current system for MY16 models, however your guess is as good as mine as to whether Australia will get this.

It sounds good: 6.5" hi res display, mirror Link.

I'd even consider swapping the 5.8 for the 6.5 when/if available (depending on cost of course). VW Australia would love the extra income from current owners wanting to upgrade their infotainment system.

When is the switch from MY15 to MY16 ?

Do you have a source for this?

MY16 cars should (if history is anything to go by) start arriving in Australia around July/August.

Heard back from VW head office via the dealer regarding the MY16 Golf and any possible MIB II addition - this was the reply:

"Our model year change for European produced vehicles is always calendar week 22. Our Planning department has advised MY16 production will begin being planned from calendar week 18 (late April). From a Product perspective, there is no new model or facelift planned for the Golf/Golf GTI for MY16. Furthermore, whilst there is generally small changes, inclusions and deletions each model year, we do not currently have any information available to share for MY16."

                    Anyone heard anything else?

Just wondering if anyone out there has any updated information. Looking to lock in a Golf R but keen to wait and see if the MY16 will have this. Contacted a local dealer but they had nothing to add about upcoming changes at this stage.

This is a deal breaker for me. I want a new Octavia but won't buy one if the head unit doesn't support AndroidAuto or Apple CarPlay.

Skoda are already claiming that their new infotainment units support it:
                        SmartLink - Å KODA

New Octavia Scouts are being sold with "Apple connectivity" whatever that is:

Touch screen 8" Columbus Satellite Navigation, with integrated audio including Bluetooth® audio and streaming, USB, AUX and 2 x SD card slot, including Apple connectivity, voice control needed (8 speakers)

The dealers are clueless. Skoda Australia can't tell me anything. I think I'll just sit tight until I can plug my phone into a demonstrator at a dealer and test that it works.

I have to agree! About four years ago when I first decided I wanted a Tiguan I went to dealerships, and without exception they all stumbled over questions about different OEM multimedia options, including Bluetooth, MDI, etc. For various reasons, including absences from the country due to work, it took me until late 2014 to buy, at which point I bought secondhand as the shape I wanted was no longer available new. Resources such as vwwatercooled are what informed me about the options available, and I subsequently upgraded to what I wanted outside of the VW Australia network (at much less cost I might add). I really don't understand why the dealers seem so uninformed about the products they sell - after all, it's their livelihood - except that perhaps they make enough money selling cars to the uninformed.

I had a phone call from my local VW salesman confirming that MY16 Golf Rs will be coming with the 6.5" MIB

Now if only I could persuade them to sell me Golf R wagon with a manual gearbox I could happily give them large amounts of my $$$$.
