RNS510 - RDS Song name

Hi all,

I was just wondering about whether my RNS510 will display song/station info in radio mode?

It is a Dec/2011 built Golf R. Currently, it only displays Radio station name ie TheEdge or 2Dayfm.

I remember test driving another one before making my purchase and remember seeing the song name displayed on the screen? (No sure if this was a 2012 model though)

Is anyone else seeing this on their R? Can the firmware be updated to allow for this feature?

With firmware 4120 or above yes.
Note that not all FM stations implement RDS, and some only show the station ID whilst others show track info as well.

it canbe switched on in the setup menus. None of my local stations in Orange have bothered to implement it so I leave it off showing the 6 channel selection buttons.

I recently upgraded my firmware *just* for this feature, now the camera seems a little laggy when switching on but otherwise everything else is unchanged.

My local station doesn't do RDS, even Triple M in Sydney seems to be a bit hit and miss with it so I've ended up turning it off anyway I suppose it's nice to have, but even though the technology has been around forever (like CD text) no one seems to bother with it too much. (why don't commercial CD's have CD text in 2014??)

In the US they seem to use RDS extensively (at least on the east coast where I've been) even college stations.

I thought it was firmware 51xx that added RDS. You also have to enable it in the Settings after updating.

5000 series firmware is for EU systems with DAB tuner. It doesn't add any functionality for older units.

4120 definitely enables it,I am running that with RDS.
