  • RNS Stalled Update ... Anyone Know Why?

    Hi all,

I've got a revision "C" RNS that was running version 2850 software:

    Original splash screen:

I started to install the new SW and it stalled at this point:

Once I restarted the RNS this was the system info (even though the install hadn't completed):

And the new splash screen when I restarted:

What can I do to make the RNS complete the new software install? I'm trying to install the modified EU_4120_FW_60_35_5 firmware from elsewhere on this forum.

Any help is very much welcomed.

    Alan.

Have you tried reverted back to your original 2850 firmware?

Is EU_4120_FW_60_35_5 intended for Europe maybe?

I messed up my unit trying to upgrade the firmware and had to send it away to get it fixed (couldn't recover it myself) - I can provide you with details if you like?

Thanks mate, please send any info you can. awh1@bigpond.com

I'll re-read the new firmware update thread again just in case.

The strange this is the RNS appears to function correctly with radio and sat/nav, but yesterday while driving it switched itself off while I was bluetooth streaming music (I have no idea why), I had to restart the unit, 40 minutes later it just froze, once again I had to restart the RNS.

After re-reading the firmware thread it looks like I've installed EU rather than AU firmware lol, so I'm gonna re-install the CORRECT version and will report back.

On another note, when streaming music the RNS doesn't display track info, anybody know why?

Is it an intermittent fault or is it just plain broken?

If intermittent, could something be overheating? - what partition ratio are you using?

First thing, does it lock up without streaming? have you given it a three finger reboot? I am running 5128, VIM, and set the DVD to region free with some nice expensive hardware and software I bought. It has to be done out of the car though. There is a place up your way that can do most of the updates but I don't know if they can do region free or setting or finding security coding. It would take about one to two hours of work on the bench if all goes well.

              Hi Greg,

I've just installed (or tried to) the AU 4120 firmware and got to this point:

              This is the error message:

It was fine on the previous two days.

I forgot to mention the firmware I've downloaded to install is a modified install from this site, although as I've previously stated it didn't appear to have completed the install.

Does anyone have a download for an un-altered firmware version?

It did lock up while streaming, I'd just had the VW 9W7 bluetooth kit installed that morning.

I have also used the three finger reboot.

I have the unlock code, my unit is second hand and legit.

It maybe worth a try to get a new software download from my-gti.com site. I have had good results with downloads from their links. It is a good site focused on upgrades and firmwares.

I have a suspicion that the unit was not a "C" model to start with. I previously had a unit that "thought" it was a "C" after a previous upgrade but in fact was a "B" to start with. I could therefore not update beyond 38xx. As per Kamold's thread Firmware 4xxx is unlikely to work 100% on a "B" unit and can result in bricked unit.

I'd suggest you recover back to 272x and then attempt a 38xx upgrade and leave it at that. A "B" and even a "C" unit works fine on 38xx.

                            Hi Sharkie

It's definitely a C, says so on the label in top of the unit.

I'm downloading more software as I write.

                            I'll give it a go.

I'd say your "interrupted" download may have contributed to the issue.
