The_Hawk - yes composite single RCA connection. Yes have seen the badge versions that flick up when reverse is selected. If you have the full RNS-510 with BT then you've got a pretty good package - if you want to tinker I'm sure someone would take the lot off your hands...

JustCruisn - Yeah comes with basic wifi USB adapter so can either hotspot from your phone or I had a 4g mifi powered from the head unit USB sitting in the glovebox. OPS? Do you mean live vehicle stats from OBDII? If so the best way is to get a USB OBDII cable and run it into one of the back USB ports and run Torque Pro

OPS = the parking sensors. With the RNS and some other systems you get an outline of the car and coloured bars to indictate the sensor readings.

Any updates on how the unit is going? Any random reboots/crashes etc while using all the different features eg. navi + radio/SD/music. It seems to work so well in your video!

No issues as yet - the supplied (extra cost) OBD2 adapter does connect to the already installed B-scan app, but can't as yet get it working with Torque Pro.
OPS - guys to be honest I don't have a clue if it supports or not, but doubt it unless it's connection is via USB and android has an app for it?
No weird re-boots or freezes as yet. I'd like spoken street names in iGo 8 Primo (supplied GPS off-line app) as I don't always want a 3/4g connection, there are guides to get it working but haven't had success yet. No big deal without it as the iGo app works very well.
SD Card/USB key music works well, iPod music seems to have a 2 min pause until the iPod warms up until the music starts, no huge issues at all.
When you start the car in the morning, if you had SD/USB/iPod music running last, it does take about 10-15 secs to have music start, but if you had FM music going when you stopped, it starts as soon as you switch key on.
Having android and internet does make experimenting quite cool, running Plex and DVBLink streaming from my home server is uber cool while out and about, but kills the D/L quota
I'm keen to do a follow up YouTube Review after I get the OBD2 usb cable setup, and get the dash dials set. Also need to showcase the BT diaper and phonebook that works pretty well.
Hopefully mid next week - will keep you posted!

I have a line on 8inch version of this for a very good price, will test it though before boasting. Could be a cheap knockoff but fingers crossed it's the goods

Found this: Android4 1 7" inch Car DVD Player for Volkswagen Canbus GPS 3G Multi High Touch | eBay

looks the same as the one you've got, might dig around a bit more before commiting, would rather pay more to buy from supplier who's delivered working products.

                  So tempting...

I bought myself a cheapy off ebay around 6 months ago that does the job but Im looking to upgrade it to a better unit in the near future...

I have been patiently waiting to see how the DNS unit improves as I still like the fact that they are going to get it to integrate with the MFD, plus a few other nice features like DAB+...

However, it has been a dogs breakfast for the past 6 months so will give it another 4-6 months and will make a decision on which way to go, but this unit looks awesome...

Look forward to the next video showing how the bluetooth works and interested to see if the next and previous track buttons work while streaming bluetooth coz some units dont work...

                    Update:

Bought an 8 inch unit off an alibaba supplier, and everything works perfectly, except that they accidentally sent me the wrong canbus decoder. So as a temporary fix my mate helped me wire up a constant 12V and a ACC line to the unit and it powers on and off with key turn fine. Have rooted and configured unit to my liking by following xda forum instructions. Can post photos of the unit if people want to see.

Very happy to have taken the plunge and the risk associated with this unit because it's so smooth and everything (unit wise, not steering wheel function yet) just works!

I've got an 8 inch version also.
Had trouble with rooting it so had to factory reset it to get it functional again.
Haven't had a chance to play with much more than installing a few different nav apps and streaming media from my home nas. But the interface is very smooth and responsive, much more than the old winCE unit it replaced.
Steering wheel controls work very well with no input lag.
                      Impressed so far.

I think I had the same problem with getting root to work. I figured it out in the end. It turned it the problem was that I wasn't letting superuser run and install binaries before I went ahead with the root process. Once I ran superuser once before initiating the root process, everything worked smoothly.

Yeah I reckon that's what the issue was also, just haven't had a chance to go at it again. Have a newborn and work happening around the house so it got put on the backburner (the nav unit, not the newborn...)

What would be the benefit of rooting the device..? Chanjmc, pics would be great and a link to the unit you bought also...

Going to consider this in a couple months I think...

I'll get some pictures tomorrow after work maybe? Benefits of rooting: Top 10 Benefits of Having an Android Rooted Device
You don't really lose any functionality per se on the headunit, but I've always rooted my android devices (been using android since the Nexus One). If you're into that kind of thing, with root access on your headunit, you are able to mount the external SD card as the "internal sd" to allow you to run your maps, songs etc off the larger external SD.

My 2 cents is that this unit is definitely worth the investment, you can muck around with it as much or as little as you want, out of box functionality is pretty smooth and complete imo. You'll need to be careful which supplier you get your unit from as some do not supply Nav and maps out of box (others do preload and provide map on microSD card)

Yeh thats what I thought... I used to root my androids, but that was mainly to get new roms on it, but since ive gone to the new nexus, no need as pure android is sooo good...

What is the inbuilt microphone like on the units..?? That is one thing I am hoping is better than my unit coz I sometimes get complaints that mine is pretty rat*****...
