Bluetooth 9w7 assistance required

I have a 9w7 (Part no. 5N0 035 730 B) bluetooth unit in the Touareg. Also have a HTC Desire S phone, which gets recognised by the 9w7, but won't connect. This is because the 9w7 will only connect if a phone is rsap (remote sim application) capable. The HTC Desire S (running Android 4.0.2) is not rsap compatible....and HTC won't support won't help me.

Yesterday our daughter was around at our place, showing off with her Samsung Galaxy S4 phone. I asked to see if it worked with the Touareg BT, and it did...perfectly. So...I want a new phone...but not keen to pony up the $850 for Samsung S4.

So, the phone I need, needs to have rsap (remote sim application) capability. I'm not an iPhone fan.

My question is this...do you have a 9w7? If so, what phone do you use? Does it connect/work ok? All functions available via the RNS/wheel controls etc?

My phone is a Nokia 920. All the functions work with my steering wheel and radio. I got fed up with the flakey android phone I had. Best phone so far. It also has offline maps with a worldwide licence. I have all the apps I need and syncing with a windows laptop is as easy as iTunes. I did buy outright but Telstra have them on plans. I bought a red phone from Harvey Norman and genuine covers from a UK seller for $15 each in a variety of colors to suit my mood

Do you have a 9wz or 9zz? 9w7 doesn't support RSAP. Most Android phones also don't support RSAP (by default).

There is an Android ap however that provides an RSAP service, and should work with your phone:

9wZ to be precise (sorry).

Tried the free trial, it recognises the phone, but won't connect. Will try and 'root' the HTC this weekend, see if that makes a difference

Yeah needs to be rooted in order to install properly.
Check this thread on XDA for instructions.

I have an HTC phone also but don't have an RSAP capable BT module so can't test it myself.

If you're keen, you can also update your phone to Android IceCream Sandwich and really make the most of your handset.
I would recommend this particular ROM.

As with anything phone/computer related, always take backups. Once rooted, install Super Backup from the Google play store. Titanium Backup is more fully featured but very clunky to use. And once you have a custom recovery, make sure you take a Nandroid backup before installing a custom ROM.

4.2.2 is latest Jellybean version.

If you want to keep the look and feel of HTC's Sense interface then install ViperS.

If you want the latest and greatest (not sure how well it will run on the Desire S) then you can install an Android Open Source Platform (AOSP) ROM such as Cyanogenmod. This looks different to Sense, its a matter of personal taste.

i have the same issue with mine. i have the 9wz installed in mine.

wife's galaxy s2 connects nicely in remote sim mode. saves battery, better reception, can send and recieve sms msgs via the mfd & rns510.
mine is the htc one x. won't connect in rsap mode -just hands free mode. i tried the rsap (trial) app - no luck.
i'm hoping 4.2 will solve my lack of "premium" connection.

Is your One X rooted? RSAP ap won't work without root access as it needs access to the bluetooth stack on the phone which is protected by default.

I personally use this ROM on my (now my wife's One X).
HTC are notorious for using a proprietary BT stack on their phones which breaks other things as well, such as A2DP not displaying song info. I now have an HTC One which works properly with A2DP. I have a 9w7 BT module in the car so I can't test RSAP for youz.

If anyone in Sydney has a 9wz and wants me to test RSAP with Android would be happy to test.

Many thanks to the generous time and patience from kamold who assisted me today to first of all, root the HTC Desire S, apply a new ROM, then get the rSap protocols up and running (which was not that difficult in the end).

I can happily declare that the HTC Desire S does pair and work with the VW Premium 9wZ Bluetooth system (through the RNS) of a 2008 Touareg.
