Cool! Someone will show me in person their polar fis. Then when I get the cash will install one on a passat since no one has done one yet.

        • Installing this thing is a pain in the ass... Trying on a MK6 Golf R from inside cabin... got the hex screw out which was a pain, the box the hex screw was holding in place - i'm assuming thats the one i need to get out to unplug? The instructions say there is plenty of wire on it so i should be able to just pull it out but it feels like the cable is pretty tight to me??? And without pulling it out I can't see how to unplug the cable on it...what is this box exactly that im unplugging?

Edit so that wasn't the right box, the box that has the hex screw into it is just in the way for the box you really want behind it, which has the cable you need.... and that box behind the box with the hex screw is the one you can use the long flat head screwdriver to leverage out as the guide suggests... Fitting everything back in behind that console thing is also a bit of a pain, hope it wont rattle now...

          • Yes the main challenge with installing the unit is to locate the CANbus interface and connect the piggy-back cable in.

Once you've done this the rest is straight forward in comparison.

            • So what exactly are the 2 boxes for? The one that has the hex screw that is in the way, and the one i'm actually piggybacking onto?

Not sure what the other box you had to move was, however the one you plugged the cable into is the CANbus gateway module.

See here for description of what it does: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...olf-44468.html

Essentially you're connecting into the infotainment bus and getting access to the all the diagnostic data that is available on all the various busses running around the car.

                • I tried to do the same as you - install from inside. And I got stuck as I had 2 controllers up behind the fuse box. I got the fist box out of the way but ther no way I could get my fingers further back to unclip the canbus cable. In the end I went through from under the windscreen and it was soooooo much easier and there was heaps of room form accessing the cable and putting in the FIS harness.

                  • So today started the car and no Phone menu and no AutoPolar menu in sight on my MFD..... tried holding down OK button for 10sec but no luck... any ideas? Do I need to pull a fuse or something? Or will it fix itself?

To turn the unit on (after you've turned it off), you need to hold the OK button for about 30 seconds.

I would suggest that if you haven't turned it off, you'll need to pull the fuse - F24 on Golf6. Otherwise either pull the unit off it's connector (if you can access it easily) or disconnect the battery for 30 seconds will also work.

Recommend not leaving it as you could end up with a flat battery as likely your radio won't turn off if the autopolar isn't working. FIS+ won't pass through other comms on the infotainment bus if it's not working and therefore your radio won't get the message to switch off.

Other thing is to check the physical connections are still OK.

                      • Thanks for the reply.... which one is fuse24? I couldn't find a fuse map in the manual or online easily... (Golf VI R)

Thats interesting what you say about radio not turning off as i noticed that, when i pulled up and turned off the car the radio stayed on, i just hit the power switch on volume knob to turn it off...

F24 is in the fuse holder next to the battery in your engine bay (i.e. not inside the cabin).

Yes if you ever get this happening this is a give-away that things are not OK with the Auto-Polar. If you don't want a flat battery you must switch off your radio manually (like old school).

                          • Ahh thanks!

I was looking inside cabin for fuse. Found it under bonnet easily. Pulled it for 15sec, put it back, closed bonnet and boom fixed...

So is this a normal thing? How often does it happen? Any patterns as to why it happens?

So i need to make sure radio is turning off when I get out of the car...

It has happened to me once in around 9 months and I'm aware of a few others that this has happened to also.

There are regular firmware updates and generally the later firmware should be more stable.

If you haven't updated your firmware for a while and it happens again, then I'd suggest updating your firmware first.

If it keeps happening then log a fault on the autopolar forum. The developers will then look into it and hopefully have a fix in the next firmware release.

What's the difference between "Boost" and "!Boost" ?

Also i'm not convinced the Exhaust temp is reading correct, can someone else check that?
