    Weird.
Same happened to me on the new firmware. Didn't happen on the previous. Had to disconnect the battery to reset the FIS. Probably could have just removed a fuse.

    • Why'd you quote all the pictures again?

More driving today and the reverse camera display was intermittently available between trips.

However on the way home on the freeway it gets worse. At first I'm trying to access the blutooth menu to view my address book on the MFD, but it's not showing up. Then I see a message appear on the RNS510 saying "can't climate information at this time", then all of the MFD screens disappear, so that I'm left with only the main one and the settings page (audio, bluetooth, and nav screens gone). Media keys on the steering wheel not working. If I turn the car off the RNS510 stays on, I have to turn it off myself.

When I arrived back to work I quickly fired up the laptop to make sure all of those items were still ticked as installed. They are, but the 19 - Gateway control module has faults and I can't access many of the other modules.

I'll have to wait until I get home to go digging for the FIS box (can't see how it would just disconnect) so I guess I have to assume it's stuffed???

Hoping I can access it via James' method as there's no way I want to be going via the bonnet again.

      • I think you may have a loose wire, or need to upgrade the firmware again. youre doing the online upgrade right?

there should be 0.3.1 white/colour available for you.

        • I had it packed in pretty good with no tight cable kinks so hard to imagine how it would just disconnect while on the freeway. I updated the firmware to 3.x White on Wednesday 28 Nov just before installing it. It's been relatively fine since then.

btw I've only ever used the online update tool - where's the offline firmware available from?

          • Connected the USB cable to attempt an upgrade but it says device not found. So either multiple cables have unplugged themselves from the FIS or the unit has kicked the bucket already.

            • Did you select the "upgrade" menu on FIS+ to do the firmware upgrade? Unit must have this function active to upgrade while still in the car. If you have taken it out then there may be a problem with the unit.

Either way I recommend posting tech issues on the Autopolar forum as this is where the developers hang out. They are pretty good at sorting out these types of issues.

              • Well if I can't see the FIS in the MFD (car is off btw anyway) I assume it thinks it's not connected to the car so I should be able to update in this configuration.

Plus I'm trying to work out how on earth to access it via the cubby hole. I can twist & move the relay to the left (in front of the FIS box), and I can wriggle the gateway around a little, and from the motion I think it slides up out of a bracket, but I'm struggling to pull that off. Which way am I supposed to push or pull at it?

I already have a thread on the other forums.

No clips, just lifts out and move towards you.

                  • Thanks, struggling with the lift up bit then... it feels like the gateway is anchored on its left side.

Success, saw a tab on the front of it and pried a long flat head screwdriver for leverage to get it out.

Ok got the FIS box out now and it's allowed me to update to 3.1. Guess I just have to reconnect it all and see if the car will return to normal.

                    • Everything's back to normal now... besides the gateway not being exactly where it should be (running out of daylight)

Took the module out, updated from 3.0 to 3.1 ok, found out cable that plugs into the FIS was starting to split at the plug in (it's not a great plug design and could easily be unplugged (although I'm not sure if that was a result of my tugging on it when trying to remove it). Reconnected it all and shoved it all back in, and the FIS box is just sitting in the cubby hole compartment where my sunglasses used to be.

                      • RNS510 Diagnostics mode

Looks like I'm not the only one with that problem

and also a quicker resolution is to disconnect the battery or gateway fuse instead of spending 2 hours trying to disconnect everything and reconnect it

                        • its probably good you checked the plugs anyway.

glad its working for you again.

when you perform an upgrade (major) it will do the diagnostics thing to the RNS510. mine did it first time. never done it since.

                          • Well I can confirm that the Tiguan gateway is not in the same spot as Mk6 Golf.

First went from below under the dash - removed the fuses etc but couldn't locate it going blind. So decided to go from top where you can actually see. Removed the wipers etc and confirmed that the area is bare.... just a few cables running around.

Looked at the side of the footwell as this was suggested also - not there either

So next job is to start investigating behind the glovebox.

                            • Look also for a different colour of the plug, it could be blue and it well could be behind the glovebox, look above the line where the pedals would be in the LHD Tig. That's where the canbus is in the LHD Q7.
