  • I still get a loud oscillation sound and pop when I cold boot the unit with the engine on my H unit, going back to 4020 stops it though.

Interesting. No idea what it could be. Can you detail all audio accessories you have ie BT unit including model/rev anything aftermarket, MDI etc etc.
Given that the firmware rev affects it should be something you can avoid with a setting somewhere...

Once again, thanks alot for putting your time and effort into creating these firmware builds for us! Also thanks to all the guys above for maning up and having a go before me.
        No probs.
Will look to revising the main firmware guide shortly with this version once I get confirmation of partitioning working properly.

I've got factory MDI and BT in my Polo and then it's running through to an amp in the boot, I've got the VW Soundsystem option selected so it provides low-level RCA sound to the amp. I'm then using the CD Changer remote line as a remote for the amp.

I'm not sure if it's a bug with the Sound System option or if the CD Changer remote line if turning on earlier than usual, but it all goes back to normal with 4020...

At the moment it's a non-issue since going to 4020 keeps the radiotext, I just hope it gets cleared up in newer frimwares

Ok so its triggering the amp that's the issue. Possibly they changed the order that modules are started in the rns to boot faster or something...

            • remind me again - do i need to reboot after i put the dvd in, or do i simply follow the prompts?

              i'm currently on 402x.

              • I did, came up with an error after inserting the disc while unit was on. so I turned the unit off and on again, worked fine after that.

also remember to perform the upgrade WITHOUT the keys in the ignition.

                • Yes, many forget that last bit. That said I once did a firmware installation while driving home from work (had run out of battery after numerous failed attempts)

                  • not a bad idea doing it on the way home and reloading the map data!

                    • Does this FW upgrade also include new maps? Can anyone from Brisbane comment on how up to date they are? Also, to save me starting a new thread, I just bought a GTI with RNS510, I thought it had bluetooth as it had a phone button on it but now I'm thinking it doesn't Is there a way to retrofit bluetooth?

                      • there are no maps in the firmware update. and if you download the version from this thread, you will lose everything stored on the hard drive - unless you had a kamold custom map installed before - there is (was) a V5 map floating around that is fairly up to date.

                        • Maps are a separate CD - can find them in a stickied thread in this section.
Bluetooth can be retrofitted, many threads about it here. Check carsystems.eu or ebay for purchasing. DIY is fairly easy if you can wire up your home A/V system.

i was under the impression you don't loose anything if you upgrade from 402x, as it already has the 90/5/5 partition?

i do have the v5 maps disc, incase i have to reload.
i can always reload my music.

but vcds settings (for bluetooth), rns language, vim etc etc - i don't want that lost.

Correct: if you already have the 90/5/5 partition scheme you won't lose anything.

If you had previous 2 partition setup from 2760 etc, or standard 3xxx series with 50/25/25 then music and maps would be lost also.

Coding is maintained with this version.

                              • so 30 mins later, i've now got the new firmware running.
                                was a smooth install.
didn't loose any settings on the rns510.
i'm yet to check bluetooth & vim.

i've lost the custom boot screen, but that was expected.
                                will reload this soon.

based on 5 mins of playing around - radio text is a hit or miss, depending on the station.
haven't seen any weather information yet.

thanks kamold for making the iso available. as usual, u made it a simple & painless experience. 1st with the 402x series, and now the 412x series.
i gotta buy u drink or something next time i'm in sydney!!
