4. There is an issue with the spoken directions: it tries to do a text-to-speech for town names, and fails. ie it will say something like, 'take the next exit, then turn right towards DUMMY'. Not sure if this is an issue with our map data (likely) or the firmware itself. I know on the RNS-E in Audis this works however. I used to get 'take the next exit towards Campslie' as it appeared that Campsie was misspelt in the database.

OK, I have uploaded the newly modified 4120 firmware image thanks to Zeit20t for hosting.

WARNING! This is a beta release and has yet to be tested.

I need someone with access to VCDS to test load this and see if the coding is maintained and report back.

In summary: this is a modified 4120 fw image that should be non-factory (ie maintain coding, radio presets etc) and has had hard drive partition sizes changed to 90/5/5 for Australia/NZ maps to maximise music space. Also has VIM and secret menu enabled.

I could test it but knowing 5120 or whatever it's called is floating around ready to be modified some day I might just wait for that (considering how many attempts it took me to get 4120 working).

I have an ISO with 5218 in the model number. the file structure is slightly different, has DAB and TSW directories.

521x doesn't add any new features (that we can use) that I can tell, 4120 has RDS and male voice.
There will be an upgrade version of 5xxx firmware some time in the next few months but unless you have a DAB tuner board in your RNS its not going to do anything extra.

I've already got it, have no reason to use it at this stage. The RNS510 units with DAB boards are apparently going to be produced from week 45, this firmware is to support them.
