New firmware for RNS510/Columbus versions 4120 and 5210
Certainly, one of the reasons why I went ahead and installed both FW version (against kamold's advice) was someone in o/seas forum successfully installing these on his C unit.
So don't think you're really guinea pigging this one.
I had to downgrade my H61 unit from 5218 -> 4020 due to the electronic hiss and pop if the RNS510 is booting up while turning on the engine. Interestingly it did keep the radio text function, so win win I suppose.
Attempted to install 4120 with kamold's 90-5-5 script but got a SWL media error (that said it also said for 1T1350...D (whereas mine is a C). Attempting to restart the unit just goes back into the upgrade process. So stuck in a loop where I have a black screen saying searching for SWL update.
Burning this ISO again to Imation CD-RW this time (tried Verbatim DVD-R before) and hopefully will have better luck. My biggest concern atm is whether or not the unit will turn off before flattening the battery, since I can't manually turn it off (could resort to removing fuse if needed). If this doesn't work I might try a stock 4120 (50-25-25) otherwise hopefully it'll let me reinstall the 4020 disk that I still have. Not that anything I've seen on screen would indicate it's wiped anything, just the bootloader appears to have changed.
Didn't reboot, plus was running out of battery, so used the recovery CD, then as I started driving home from work I reloaded 4020 (surprised it let me install with the key in), and lost coding and Setup options on the device. Got home and am now loading the normal 4120 disc instead of the modified one. Should go ok then hopefully a premodified 5128 iso will appear soon.
Might be ... but unfortunately Continental are still using drives that read these extinct disks without any issues.
Usually -R is harder to find at the supermarket/average tech shop. My H unit reads the generic +R media I have fine, I burn it with disk utility on OS X @ 4x.
