  • Thanks DKN, ive been researching and some suggest its a straight swap and no need to change pin 20 over, others have said its a straight swap with no need to do anything (although im dubious about this)

im hoping this is the part i need, any ideas?

    • Hey DkN,

You posted this on December 16th.

"Ok so I just got clarification, the 3G is indeed working BUT it needs a different USB port. I'm not sure if newer ANS-810 have this port by default, or if you have to request it, but if you do not currently have this port on your unit then you need to solder one to the motherboard yourself. If anyone is up to this task, I will soon have a picture to show where it needs to be soldered to. "

Have you been able to get hold of a photo? I've been wanting to try this out. Before I do though, I noticed that the pop-up keyboard in the browser is much too small to be used. Is there any plan to fix this?

In the meantime I've had my ANS810 for about a month; and I love it. It blows away the Pioneer App Radio I owned for all of two days before returning it. I now want to take advantage of as many features as possible.

      • Can anyone for the love of god tell me what media type the 810 plays and what frame size etc it needs to be to work from the SD card? ive tried 6 times this evening to get one to work in various types.. what codec do i need to use to get this working?

Looks about right, but you should double check with a VAG part number.

Glad you like the unit. I've actually completely forgotten about the 3G since I really get no one asking about it from my customer base and I find a complete lack of need to browse the internet on a car unit However I will try and hunt down that photo.

Standard AVI should work fine. These days video rips tend to be mp4 / mkv / AVI, just avoid the former 2 and you should be fine. Make sure resolution is not too much higher than 800x480 though.

Also regarding previous comments on firmware M106, just to be clear in truth M99 is still the latest firmware. M106 was created purely to cater for the trip recorder camera accessory that Audiosources recently added to their collection, there are no other updates and trip recorder functions are still not 100% stable.

          • Star DKN, thanks again.. im sure without your help most of us would be going mad with this unit!!

I tried various AVI files last night converting them from mp4 to AVI but none worked, however reading about today ive discovered that AVI is just a container for the format of the video, so as per Audiousources advice im going to convert to MPEG4 as they advise, then covert to AVI and see if that works.. Ill keep the resolution down as I was wondering if that was stopping it from working..

Oddly enough, some of the TV series I had on SD did work as AVI!! no idea what the differences are but im sure ill work it out.. may try Xvid or DivX and see what I get... Just curious, am i better doing this via USB stick instead of SD card?

            Thanks all

There is no difference using SD vs USB, both use the same decoder chip.

I recommend you use avidemux to convert your videos. Xvid and DivX are both MPEG-4 codecs.

With avidemux, just choose one of the MPEG-4 codecs for video source, and for output leave it as the default AVI muxer.

              • Thanks again DKN, ive managed quite a few conversions now with plenty of success, just took a while to figure out the whole MPEG-4/MP4 thing etc...

Im sure this wont be the last question I have for you, but in the secret menu there are a few options, one being CAN type.. it has a few options in there for different versions, any idea what its for?

on the whole though I love this unit, very impressive for the money...

Also whilst I think about it, im on the following versions, is it worth me upgrading?

                BSP: ANS510AS.611
                MPU:ANS510AS.M94-01-09
                MCU: ANS510AS.130112.m1.T1
                BT: 20120405
                MST701: 6.2.01
                Region code 9

                Cheers again all....

There's no major feature update in M99 so I'd say just leave it alone until the next one.

The CAN-Bus option doesn't really do anything, the CAN-Bus decoder that the ANS series currently use are set at the factory and not software configurable.

To bad to hear that, I was hopping that could do the trick and make my type 1 steering buttons to operate proper

                          • OK Thank you, maybe Sandy knows how to access that menu. I have try changing the gateway with newer with no luck.

                            I have the ANS 610

                            • The hidden menu is accessed by long pressing the middle of the far left of the screen in Aux-In mode. However as I mentioned, while there is a CAN-Bus selection option, it does not appear to actually do anything. From what I understand the current ANS series have CAN-Bus decoder modules that cannot be upgraded via firmware, which unfortunately makes your steering wheel button issues unlikely to be resolved by an update.

I would imagine that it's your steering controller that is sending different signals which are not interpreted by the ANS unit.

the new generation units would have a CAN-Bus decoder that can be soft-upgraded.
