I dont see it as being that high on the list for this type of product personally. A kufatec is an alternative option that shows in the mfd.

Yes the addon module will be compatible with both the current and new generation of units.

It'll be useful for those 0-100 runs and quick checks of the more basic parameters, but obviously the more advanced monitoring will still be up to VCDS.

    • When I set the country/region in the radio settings to US I lose the option to set RDS. The RDS menu selection vanishes. I know we have RDS (or at least an equivalent feature) in the US. Why does this vanish. I see if I choose some of the different country settings the RDS options remains.

Do we not have the same RDS protocol as the rest of you??

When I initally installed my ANS-810 the country setting defaulted to something other than USA. And, I could see the song titles display on the screen, even within the buttons on the radio screen.

Is this a bug or am I simply not up to speed on how RDS operates?

      Any help would be appreciated.

      Paul.

      • Hi DkN I have a 2005 7L Touareg and wanting to upgrade it to I believe the RNS 510 ( please confirm) with RVC. I understand I will lose some am radio but can overcome it with some add ons ( please confirm) which unit do you recommend. Can u advise of any competent installers in melb? The US uses RBDS which is mostly the same but with some small differences - I wasn't aware of any bugs with RDS in the US for the ANS series though, but then again the US is not my market, and I am not able to test anything US-specific since I'm in Australia. Maybe you can check if any of the other US customers around here has the same issue as you.

RNS-510 is the VW factory unit, the units I sell are the ANS series. The Touareg will require the ANS-710 which is shown in the first post of this thread. There's also a notice there regarding the new platform due to be released. I can confirm the new platform will fix all radio issues as it will also use the FAKRA antenna system rather than DIN.

I am clearing my stock to get ready for the new unit and have no ANS-710s left, though I can match the clearance price of $500 plus $35 one-off order charge from the manufacturer if you wish to get the current unit. A diversity FAKRA to DIN adapter will fix your radio signal woes, if you experience any. You can get this unit installed by any competent audio installer since there is no specific coding required. If you want to be safe though, check this thread:

It has some forum members that have installed the factory RNS-510 systems who are willing to help out with installs.

          • Just thought I'd post this here as it has to do with firmware upgrades.

I bought a 4 GB microSDHC card, but my laptop SD card reader would not recognise the card in an adaptor. I then bought a Sandisk MobileMate which is a USB reader (just over $10). WHen I put the microSDHC crd in, it was recognised and formatted as FAT32. The only other option when right clicking the drive and picking Format was exFAT, and even then it would not format.

After some digging, it turned out I had to use the Disk Management tool. In WInXP it is found in Control Panel>Administrative Tools. I picked the drive, then was able to select a format option and was offered FAT. The drive card was formatted as FAT successfully.

A bit convoluted, but it works

              • DkN - will the new hardware have a HDD by any chance, or still need to use SD or iPod? thanks

I doubt that it will have built-in HDD, and frankly I don't see a need for that. It would only make transferring files more complicated, and SD memory is so cheap these days.

What I would vouch for though is USB HDD support, but I don't have any information on that at the moment.

                  • DkN, that last firmware update did nothing for me. My SD/DISC audio menus still reset to the main folder after 5 seconds (I thought they updated this??) and now my unit SD function crashes all the time on startup and I have to restart it to get it to play again. I did not have this issue before so I am now going backwards in updates, haha. Any suggestions or other firmware files? Thanks!!

Try re-inserting your SD card for now, I will have newer firmware soon. Not sure why the browse timeout is still not removed, but I've not applied the update yet myself since I have the older V version unit - maybe it is only working on iPod at the moment? Would anyone else be able to confirm this?

                        • Just thought I'd offer some feedback.

I got back to Sydney after the holidays and did the upgrade to both the firmware and maps.

Once I got the Sandisk MobileMate I was able to get the files on to the mapping microSDHC card. All went well with the map upgrade.

I formatted a microSDHC to FAT and then downloaded and extracted the files onto it.

I did make note of how to get to the language section as suggested and I did need it. A tip for anyone is to just note the column and row for the buttons, spreadsheet style. One thing I did not do was to note the radio stations as they all get wiped

The upgrade went OK. I reinstated the language and then had to try and remember the stations I had. I have now made a list of stations for the future.

Unfortunately no, Audiosources is being tight-lipped about this unit, but I have confirmation from the manager that I should at least receive a test unit by the end of the month, so I'd imagine I would be able to release some more details then.

The sound glitch at the end of the song has been reported before, it's most likely something technical to do with the WinCE system in the way it handles the song files as it closes one file and moves on to the next. I'm not entirely sure where they are at with this issue, but it happens only to some songs - still no clear pattern, but the glitch is only for a fraction of a second.
I drove a Golf MkV. This firmware IMO has made the RVC functionality worst. My unit hang couple of times to the point where I need to power off the unit. The RVC is unusable if you have bluetooth, navigation on, or both.
