  • One thing I have noticed with the new firmware is that when I start the car, it goes to the radio rather than the sat nav. I have to press the NAVI button. The previous firmware remembered what was last being used. Not a biggie as the satellites hook up much quicker.

While I am here, I went fown to Bendigo (from Sydney) for the Christmas break with the previous firmware (only did the upgrade when I got back). One thing I noticed was the system switching between Profile 1 and Profile 2, all on its own. The other thing (even after the upgrade) is that even though I have named Profile 1 to something else, it still shows Profile 1 on screen.

I've not seen a unit do that before - it could have something to do with the MCU update. I should get a new update soon and hopefully that will fix it, otherwise you may have a faulty unit.

Satnav autostart is an option under setup -> system. It gets reset by a firmware flash, that's all.

Not sure what you mean by profile - are you talking about the navigation?

Not sure how you do the wiring connection of your reverse cam. This link was useful to me: How to install OEM backup camera on mk5 mk6 VW Golf or VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI JSW
Especially this info from the link provides.(This requires a permanent 12V supply with a 5A fuse, don't attempt to use an ignition fed 12v supply otherwise unpredictable results will occur.)

I'll reset the system to get the navi come on.

The profile is the navigation profile. I presume it is the general settings that you can setup for different preferences. When the navi system starts up, there is a black "jelly bean" that comes up anouncing Profile 1. While driving to Bendigo (and on return), I would suddenly get this black "jelly bean" anouncing Profile 2 and then back to Profile 1 and back again. Nothing really changed, just this was displayed.

          • Well just got to the point where I am considering some mods to my 2011 CC. Main upgrade is to install a RVC, but reading through the great info in these forums, I am now getting giddy about the idea of replacing my head unit from my RCD510 to a more featured one which includes SATNAV with possibility of adding aftermarket RVC and not just OEM one. But from what I can gather, the ANS810 unit which looks quite impressive is just about to be replaced, and DkN is no longer stocking these.
I am not really interested in the OBD functions which look like a big feature of the soon to be released units, so the ANS810 would probably suit me fine as long as it fully integrates with steering wheel and MFD / AC like the stock unit does. I note that there has been improvements with Ipod functionality which is good - (I take it that you can list titles by podcasts now as well as albums, artists etc?).
Any other options I could consider? Or should I just wait and see what is just around the corner?
            Thanks

            • I would recommend waiting unless you don't mind the quirks in media playback that the current units have.

At the moment, iPod has no shuffle / repeat function and USB / SD does but cannot list music by ID3 tags, only by folder structure and file name. So it's good for those who either put all music into one folder and play it on shuffle, or those who just plays music in the order that they are in without shuffle. Otherwise you can work around this by using Bluetooth stream and retaining your phone's control over the playback, but no song information will show on screen.

I am expecting a unit for me to play with by the end of the month and the unit should be available for purchase early next month.

Im 100% sure it has nothing to do with the wiring. It only happens after i updayed the firmware. And only happens when i engage reverse when im in sat nav, or bt or while using sat nav and bt.

                    • Its an issue with the latest firmware.
I have reported it to Audiosources 2 days ago.

I know it is not your call at all but the sign of a great tech company imho is one that takes sustaining engineering seriously.

I have the previous gen 7609 and when I reported bugs was told that the new product is much better and all engineering efforts are going to making it the best in the market.

                        Sound familiar to anyone?

If AS really wants to make a big splash in the aftermarket industry I think they need to actually devote resources to looking after their EXISTING customers. That way they will pass on their experience to others becoming ambassadors for the brand. That kind of marketing cannot be bought. And they will then be more likely to buy into the next revision. And the one after.

I don't expect the issues with my older as7609 to be resolved however I would really like to see the current product maintained into the next gen and buy one myself.

You're right of course but you have to understand that this isn't a big shot company like alpine or Pioneer. It's a privately owned company and I have even met the manager / owner personally, he's passionate about his VW and that's a good sign. The main problem is that they simply do not have the resources / funds to develop a brand new unit from scratch, support and update the firmware, and still do the same for the older units.

Hopefully though this new unit will be a breakthrough for them and with more sales will come more funds for this kind of thing. I have between told they plan to keep the current units for the domestic (meaning China) market so maybe the firmware will still be maintained, though some of the major functions cannot really be helped, as I said they've pretty much hit the hardware limit for what they have right now.

Also have to add that Audiosources is a manufacturer and their main business is selling to distributors. Most of these distributors in turn would not send out firmware updates to their customers in any case, so in reality, updating the firmware only supports a VERY small section of existing customers - the reality is that the main aim is to improve the unit to improve sales. The situation is a bit different from something like your Smartphone where updates are rolled out to all the customers.

The idea this time around though, is that the new generation unit should get things right the first time instead of relying on lots of incremental updates to bring the finer details up to scratch. This way future updates will only relate to new features instead of fixes that probably should have been in place earlier.

                          • DkN, did you ever get the firmware updates for the older systems? I think that may be my issue with the last firmware not doing anything for me but making it worse.

Before you update the unit you have to check the current version, remember the instructions that I send with the firmware? BT 20111115 are the older V version units, I don't think your unit would still be functional if you flashed the wrong firmware, or at the very least it would break your Bluetooth functions.

I haven't been able to talk to the technician for over a week, it turns out for Chinese New year they have a break almost for the whole month of February, so they're extremely busy trying to get the new unit ready before then. I've been asking my sales rep to leave messages for him but even he hasn't seen the technician in the office for a while. I know the new firmware is there though, he just needs to release it when he has time.

At this stage I'm not even sure if I can get an order in of the new units before they go on break, if not then it would have to be pushed back to early March.

                              • DkN,

Unfortunately I just bought the ANS-810 2 weeks ago... Spent a fortune shipping it over here and for customs/taxes (Egypt.. duhhh).

Anyway, there are 2 very serious problems that I wish to be fixed...

1- BT doesn't display names, but wierd codes such as 42D12A23131412. Tested with iPhone 3G & Samsung.
2- To skip to Next/Prev song I have to use the touchscreen. This is really annoying and distracting, would be really nice if we could turn the 2nd dial to skip songs like in the original VW stereos (I had RCD-310). Especially if you leave the screen turned off like I do.
3- This one is not very important... You can't turn off the screen while having a phone call.

I'm not sure if these issues were reported before or not... Are there any plans to fix them ?

                                Regards,
                                Ahmed
