Firmware updates for European RNS510 units

Can someone please tell me what the difference between these 2 x 4020 versions?

This one is named 4020_a_B

i am uploading the 4020 for Unite A/B/C for Europe users

The "Euro" firmware versions have the HDD partitions set at 75/20/5 (Music/Map/POI)%

The Australian Firmware versions have 90/5/5% because our maps are significantly smaller in size (HDD space).

What version EU unit did you buy from eBay? The 4xxx links here are for A/B/C, and a second edition for the later version units (E/F etc). The older uniuts (A/B) are a little temperamental with the 4xxx series, so some tweaks were done to enable them to load.
FWIW...there really is no visible difference between 38xx aznd 4xxx...just e-penii bragging factor.

Hit me with any questions or requirements, and I'll point you in the right direction.

Just a note: the firmware in this this thread is for systems Physically located in Europe. Not those bought from Europe and installed in a car in Adelaide...
Use the thread for aus firmware if you are in Adelaide (or anywhere else in Australia).

Performed update on my RNS 510 Rev. A

Went from 3810a_noru to 4020 Modified
Used Verbatim DVD-R, burned with cdburnerxp, 4x speed and Track at once.
Enabled Downgrade in secret menu.
Made an hard reset and the I applied custom bootlogo.
Used TDK CD-R, burned with cdburnerxp, 1x speed and Track at once.

New bootlogo, VIM and HDD partitions as promised.

Loaded Western Europe v8 maps Speedcams Edition (cd 7692) to the HDD

Everything works! No problems at all!

Might be worth just trying a cd lens cleaner and see if that helps

Hi,

After some challanges to get 4020 loaded on my RNS510, I switched computer and burned the 5th DVD. This solved my error not beeing able to upgrade
Intitaly i seems all is fine but today I discoverd that my boardcomputer is not showing the navagation and radio anymore (perhaps I mis more).
Any idea how to fix this?

I totally agree with you, that is strange.

Maps are burned to a Verbatim DVD+R DL (Dual Layer).
I think I used PowerISO and low speed (2x or 4x).
Can't really remember because I made the copy in February.

The DVD drive I have used is a Sony/Optiarc AD-7200S

How I loaded the maps:

Just unlocked the car and kept the keys in my pocket

Started the unit
Made a Soft reset (left arrow+right arrow+eject)
Let the unit boot again
Just pressed the "Map" button on the RNS unit
Message popped up "Insert Navigation DVD..."
Put in my Navigation disc
Map were shown on the unit
Pressed Eject
Message shown that told me that Nav Data was being loaded to HDD.
And now I saw the progress bar.

After about 30min the unit turns of (probably for battery saving)
I kept an eye on the unit all the time and just turn it straight back on again.

After approx 50min the copying of the files was done and I ejected the disc and took the car for a test ride!

We know that at 402x the units seem to be more sensitive to 'good' media.

I am thinking that it might be worthwhile creating a 381x firmware with 70/25/5 partition sizes to load. Then if that works, you will be able to load 402x firmware without having to reload the maps...

is this fix my accu issue from time to time is empty!

Would be great to understand if others have issues with the BC after upgrade to 4020 as well.
An solution would be even more appriciated. On a dutch Navigation forum a similar problem is reported.

Hello RNS-Friends,

I have made a stupid failure with my RNS 3T0035680C (0xC801). I don't know why but I am collecting almost every SW Version for the RNS, and now something happens what never should happens:

I updated my EU Navi with the AUS FW4020 (90/5/5) !

Guess what is the problem: The Map will be not stored to the HDD anymore...

Every trial, to bring back the old partition failed. The EU 3970 and 4020 from the first page here change nothing,
2660, 2760x (special FW by Joshi for Format) and the 3810 are not starting: "SW-Error".

Mistake in burning CD I exclude, as the CD's were already older, or already used for updates and/or burned as ever.

What can I do ?
Is there any trick to force the RNS for new format/partion ??
