  • About to buy RNS510 and have a quick question...

    Hi all,

I'm watching a RNS510 on eBay at the moment, it's an RNS510 Version C, but thought I'd ask this question before I pulled the trigger and found out it was a bad choice. I've noticed there are Version D models available now, however they are considerably more expensive. Any suggestions on whether it's worth spending the extra on the Version D? I've read a few posts that suggest the Version D may not play well with Oz maps?

    Thanks for your help!

Have a look in the VW Car Audio and Electronics section at VW Car Audio and Electronics . You will find a lot of info on the RNS510 there.

      Hey mate,

I'm doing the same thing shortly. There's a guy on here Ryan who's been really helpful.....However I can't get a definitive answer on whether version D is compatible with the Australian maps disc either...and then there is version F which appears to have a 40GB HDD and faster access speeds.....Also more expensive, but worth the splash?

If you have Dynaudio and Bluetooth you'll be able to recode version C fine, or in some cases it just seems to be plug and play luckily.

Finally, looks like you are lucky to get $320 reselling the RCD510 which amazes me but I guess that's the relentless march of progress!!

just to add something to the mix, there are also version F models... and with the maps, the Point of Interest markers for the Australian maps have the old file structure (firmware 2xxx) and is therefore incompatible with firmware 3xxx, usually model D and F units, but also some model C units come with firmware 3xxx and therefore POI will be unusable, however people are saying new maps, hopefully with the new file structure will be coming out later this year

Just make sure it has the latest maps installed V4 and if you car is pre 2009 you will need a aerial adapter .

            Thanks for the replies guys.

I have a MY12, just picked up the car yesterday so I'm sure the RNS should slide straight in.

langers_sydney, I had seen posts about the Version F but was trying to ignore it as it's just confusing me further

I've got one on eBay that I've negotiated down to $700 plus $100 delivery from Lithuania of all places, looking at his feedback it all seems legit. If there are no objections from the collective cloud here I will bit the button tonight.

That's of the version C, not D of F though. Yeah I was a little concerned about Lithuania as well but there are numerous mentions about the seller on the forums so I'm comfortable, and there is always PayPal refund if it goes horribly wrong

Just make sure the C unit is the LED version!

If you want working POIs with our crappy Aussie maps, then the FW should be 2760.

Ask our Lithuanian friend to reinstall it for you, if it is preinstalled with something higher (i.e. 3xxx).

Looks like that is going to cost me around $1000 delivered, happy to do it if you think the LED version is worth the extra $200?

Thanks to everyone for their help.

Just be warned - my unit from Lithuania took over one month to arrive as OZ Customs wanted to inspect it. And I'm sure the f**kers dropped it as well

Thanks for the tip! I'll make sure to ask it is carefully packed but if they open it and then drop it there isn't much you can do I guess, and zero accountability for customs either.

I am installing on an 08 mkv, so im not sure about this adapter business, but the seller was very helpful.
