  • RNS510 Map disc ?

When I took delivery of my CC I asked the dealer about a disc with the Maps for the navigation etc. She said it's no longer provided with the car and will be posted direct to the owner from VW.

It's been a couple of months since I took delivery and I still haven't seen this disc. What happens if the unit has a Hard Drive crash, how do I reload the Maps.
    • Should I continue waiting for a disc, or was the dealer being a dealer ?

    Thanks
    Paul

Dealer was being a dealer and told false truths.
Disc should have been provided with the owners manual from what i have heard.

I didn't get a map disk with my Octavia. I asked the dealer and he said they don't supply it.
I sent 2 emails to Skoda Australia and have not received a reply to either.
Its like when computer manufacters stopped shipping Windows CDs with PCs, just a recovery disk or partition.
I personally think it should be illegal to not supply the media but I guess it isnt as everyone does it these days. Saves them $2 by not shipping the physical media...

I have heard, from reading on this forum that alot of discs went missing that's why they started posting them.

However, let's put this in perspective. You signed a contract and part of this obviously included a navigation unit. In my humble opinion this disc should be provided at time of delivery. My disc was.

I would be going and speaking with the dealer ASAP.

My dealer told me that they are not supplied anymore and if there is ever a need to reinstall all I need to do is bring the car in and the maps will be loaded. Sounded ok to me.

Sounds like something fishy to me. You paid for it.

When I took delivery of Tiguan with dealer fitted RNS510 (Aug 2011) the disc for RNS510 provided complete with case along with the user manuals etc without even asking.

Our dealership ALWAYS supplies the disc.

I thought it was standard practice. Otherwise someone is making alot of money on the side selling them . . .

to get the disc, the dealership must quote the VIN of the car and the RNS serial number in order for a disc to be ordered and assigned to the unit/car.

It's no big deal for the dealership (Spare Parts) to do....but that's the system. Anyone who says "We don't supply the disc" is telling porky pies.

skoda australia will not have it. dealer is pulling ur leg.

i got my dvd maps 2 weeks after i picked up the car from the dealership.
they (skoda hq in cz) no longer send the dvd inside the car anymore. instead they wait for the dealer to recieve the car into the dealer's system, before sending out the dvd. it is then upto the dealer to notify the customer when it arrives.
in my case, i chose to pick it up from the dealership.

if u paid for the rns510, u also have rights to the software/map license - i.e. the dvd software with the maps on it.
just because the dealer preloads it for u on to the hdd does not mean they can keep the dvd.

                          Thanks for the feedback guys.

I have contacted the dealer, and they have said they'll organise a disk for me. I'll believe when i see it.

Following the advice of my Forum comrades, I went back to the dealer and said that I thought I should have been given a disc on delivery as others have. He went and asked and got back to me and said I was right and that he would order it from VW. Picked it up yesterday - V4.1 disc
