The 9w7 Bluetooth only works with head-unit switched ? Just checking if that is normal, as my previous cars all had nokia car-kits, which worked independently of the stereo (apart from muting the sound).
Just need to get the coding done, but happy with how its working so far and thanks for all the advice, managed to do the install, almost without problems.
(I am hoping this isn't too off topic...)
I am helping a friend this weekend install a 9w7. He has a dealer bluetooth in the car already, but doesn't know which type it is. He suspects it is Nokia. I have helped him change the RNS previously and we didn't sight the module (but didn't look too hard either).
Can anyone suggest what might have to be done to successfully remove the old bluetooth? I don't know how something like a Nokia would integrate, but my guess is:
- power & ground
- audio mute
- audio from BT into inputs on radio
Firstly we will look deeper down the back behind the radio to see if the module is there. If not, around glovebox.... but don't know where else to look.
In terms of wiring, should we be expecting a few parasitic connections on leads onto the back of the unit or what? Can anyone else provide some suggestions of what to look for?
Golf VII GTI MY 14 (Post my VI Adidas GTI being written off)
Finally settled on a new Polo today which we will be picking up on Friday. I purchased the genuine VW 'basic' Bluetooth which is being dealer installed prior to pick up. It is about $650 Inc installation. Can someone please advise what model VW Bluetooth system is current and I should be receiving for this price?
I don't believe it is supposed to display any phone info on the RCD310 but I just want to make sure I am getting the appropriate model system and not an old leftover.
Thanks!

Hello,
just wanted to share my finding.
First i have a European golf TDI 2.0 4 motion 140HP 2010 model.
I did retrofit a 9w7 K revision on an RCD 510 A revision.
The pin layout of the bluetooth dongle is:
1 and 2 Power
4 and 5 left sound
8 and 9 right sound (was set to 7 and 8 on the cradle cable i got)
17 and 18 CAN HI and Low...
With this all is working fine, including voice recognition and a2dp in stereo.
Only things left is the corrupted address book on the RCD510...
