As far as I know the differences are the newer maps, and I think it is supposed to do voice recognition on destination entry on cars with voice-activated RNS510s, but that one I am not 100% certain of.

They have electronic updates for V16 sensis maps for many cars except VW
      from the sensis website

What's changed since the previous version?

Please note: Inclusion of features may vary by in-car and portable satellite navigation manufacturer, depending on their data specification.

Whereis® Version 16 (Aust) map data includes:

Road data current to the 2008 UBD releases
99% coverage of the Australian population
Improved rural road coverage providing improved navigation to rural addresses
More than 13,000 km of new roads
Over 610,000 points of interest including:
More than 7,900 banks and ATMs
      More than 6,700 petrol stations
More than 14,000 hotels and motels
      More than 30,000 restaurants
      Major new roads including:
Eastlink, Pakenham Bypass, Dandenong Southern Bypass, Deer Park Bypass in VIC.
Lane Cove Tunnel, Tugun Bypass, Albury Wodonga Bypass in NSW.
D’aguilar Highway Exit, Caloundra - Mooloolaba Road in QLD.

The update price for the V16 to buy for a Range Rover or Discovery is $295 same price if its for the Jaguar as well haven't tried others.
Seems VW is lagging a bit

Do you have a part number for the disc Swallowtail? Apologies if it's already been mentioned.

...and it still doesn't allow voice entry of destinations.

How about Text to speech for street names etc?

Would be nice if it stated the proper roadnames (including local streets) not just a State route that most people wouldnt be familiar with.

Although i can easily live without it, and other systems i've heard with text to speech in my after market setup sounded like the girl had a speech impediment.

Sounds like v3 can't do any more v2 can do. I am so kicking myself for opting for the RNS510. The ACCC should investigate the price VW are charging for this thing. I know it's more than a SatNav, but geeezzz.

I dont think you'd miss out on that much if you didn't upgrade to V3 straight away (or at all).

Maybe they should investigate the price of the Audi Sat Nav at $5500? What about the wheel upgrade @ $1200? Leather Seats at $3300, I could buy a herd of cows for that, skin them and sew them to my seat and have dinner for the rest of the year! Whilst we're at it what about the price of a Ferrari (after all it's just a car with 4 wheels).

No-one is forcing you to buy it, if you don't like the price buy something else. It's a free market and you're free to buy the car of your choosing with the options you choose, you do however have to pay the price that they set for them.
