Email Notifications Failing (mostly Telstra)
Hello everyone. Seems there is an issue with Telstra (possible others) blocking email from our server. If you are trying to sign up I would suggest a different email if possible. If you're trying to reset your password and it fails please use the Contact Us page:
Not with all the road updates happening in Melbourne. East Link has opened. There is still working going on the M1 with a whole bunch of new offramps and on ramps on City Link.
So the Map updates will be great.
f.
So do VW dealers have an official free updates deal or something?
its almost as bad (but not quite) as $180 ink carts for a $120 printer...
Yeah it's pretty steep and doubt anyone would walk back into the dealer a year later and hand over 1200$.
Anyone who pays for dealer supplied/fit nav should get free map updates (just the orig owner) otherwise no point trying to do the right thing if it's out of date a year later.
Following the delivery of my GTI two weeks ago the only disappointment I have with it is the Navigation system including the maps and guidence instructions.
I had an early version of TomTom on my HP PDA which I have used all over Australia, England, Ireland and Europe. In January last year I got an update of Australia and NZ which cost me AUD $149.95. Big difference when we are looking at $1000+ to update the RNS-510 maps.
The other things that I don't like is that a lot of intersections are displayed as roundaboutsy and you are stuck with the one female voice. I've got Hommer on the PDA plus six other voices.
Another thing I have found annoying is when driving down the F6 at Bulli Tops it suggests that you turn right at the Campbelltown exit when you want to go to straight ahead to Wollongong.
As Hommer says DOH DOH DOH

Yeah - and that's the thing hey!
Microsoft have realised that if they offer 'family upgrades' of Windows and 'home/student versions' of Office (which allow up to 3 installations off the one license) that their sales have increased dramatically and piracy has slowed.
How money people would pay $1200 for a map upgrade with even the best portable unit would only cost about $450 now? Yeah, not many. As you said, people would seek 'other alternatives'.
If VW made it a reasonable price, say $100, then you'd probably get most owners upgrading once or twice during their ~4 year ownership of the vehicle.
Just got the following response from Volkwagen Australia regarding the crappy map and SDHC problems with my RNS510 purchased in January. The good news is the new map is almost here - the bad new is I have to buy it.
Thank you for your recent correspondence.
Firstly please accept our sincere apologies for the unexpected delay in
responding to your email.
Over the life of any product, some changes and modifications may be
made. Unfortunately it would seem that in this instance you have
received an earlier version of the RNS510 unit which does not support
the media as mentioned in the owners manual.
Unfortunately the only way to resolve this issue would be to replace the
RNS510 unit.
In regards to the sat/nav software, there is a new version of this
software which should hopefully be available this week. Please confirm
availability with the parts department of your prefered Volkswagen
retailer. They will also be able to confirm if the DVD should be
supplied when you purchase this update.
Is V3 out yet or not? I'm sure I saw a post from Dermot at the weekend giving a price as well. Since then this thread seems to have lost his post and moved from the Audio section to the Mk6 section. Or am I going crazy??
Anyone thinking of getting V3?

I got a free upgrade for V 3.0 when I did my 15K service. They were saying the maps are better when traveling north to central coast and above. I didn't find any difference when travelling here in Sydney...funny that when I used POI option to find a petrol station on the day after the upgrade, it guided me to a fictitious one in Rocks! So I am not quite sure how good is v3.0
