Whilst we're at it what about the price of a Ferrari (after all it's just a car with 4 wheels).
No-one is forcing you to buy it, if you don't like the price buy something else. It's a free market and you're free to buy the car of your choosing with the options you choose, you do however have to pay the price that they set for them.

Installed a microphone myself and upgraded the firmware on my RNS510 to do it. Just push the mute button on the steering wheel and talk. See Mav's site Volkswagen RNS 510 Microphone Connection for voice control | my-gti.comsigpic

I would like to know why we are paying upward of $600 for something thats below par in terms of technology (no safety camera warnings, no text to speech, both of which my nokia phone offers for free, and also no destination voice input) But most of all this.

The good thing is you don't have to buy it if you don't like it. The improvements over V2 would be fairly minor anyway.
If the maps were priced around 200-300 more people would be tempted to buy them however Australia is fairly behind with most things so will take a few years..

I think that the prices are a step in the right direction (the V2 maps were much more expensive), but still ridiculous. It's also ridiculous that the maps are so out of date and the features of the maps and comprehensiveness of the maps appears to be quite lacking compared to the maps which the portable units gets. There definitely is a double standard in Australia - it's not just VW's problem but all the car manufacturer's problem....

What an absolute joke! We are overpaying to upgrade to not only an outdated software system, but also outdated maps!
