My dealer refused to hand over the maps DVD. I had to get VW Australia to kindly force the dealer to send me one in the mail. You can only find out the firmware version and maps version with VAGCOM or if you have access to the "hidden" setup menu. Keep holding the setup button until the third menu appears. About 15 -20 seconds.

and it sounds like there are a couple of locations trying not to give one out - but the consensus was that it should be provided.
I think they may have accidentally left it in my Cd drive - as the cover was left on the passenger seat - with the disc still in.
2009 147TSI Tiguan, Deep Black Pearl Effect, Black Leather, Sunroof, RNS510, Bluetooth, and MDI.
Delivered 22 May 2009
I know that we include the Nav disc with the delivery of the car. We've also got a disc on stand-by, in case the allocated one for the car doesn't turn up before the car gets handed over to the customer.
i contacted the dealer and was told that he will order a DVD for me with the RNS maps.
I have to admit that so far the VW Liverpool dealer has been great to deal with.
Tig was delivered with Pirelli tyres (i dont know if the dealer has anything to do with that) and a full tank of diesel without any need for negotiation or to have it in the contract.
They also offered me a free extended warranty from 3 yrs / 100 to 6 yrs 175 which was nice. All in all a great buying experiance.

With the Gov tax benefit's closing in December, new auto sales will begin to drop quite drastically.
Dealers will now have to do more to get people to buy car's and keep their margin's up.
Still good on them for giving you all the extra's.
Just rang the parts department at Solitair in Adelaide and asked for a price for the maps DVD. I was quoted approx. $1200. ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!!!! Right now they have no dates on a new version 3 (vers.16) but when it comes out later this year, it will probably cost the same. This will be my first and last RNS510.

You will find that price to be the normal cost from most places.
That and the fact that you aren't allowed to make copies of the dvd.
That is why i am going with the Zenec unit.
It costs less, has a variety of different functions, a usb port for external hardrive connection and maps can be updated if you know where to look on the internet.

You'll find that this is not uncommon. If you read the fine print, you'll probably see that the extra 3 years is a dealer warranty, not a factory warranty, and is subject to you servicing your vehicle with them for the whole 6 years. There will also be a few exclusions on the dealer warranty.

Where is the logic in what you just said?
You're going with the Zenec unit partially because you can "borrow" the maps.
You won't go with the RNS 510 because of the cost of the maps.
I really fail to see any logic in your comments, surely if you're prepared to "borrow" one set of maps you would do the same for the other unit
And the Zenec unit has no maps available for Australia IIRC so I don't see how you could "borrow" what doesn't exist!
I just had an RNS510, MDI and Skoda BT kit fitted on Monday.
The installer did not provide the maps DVD.
Legally I believe he should have - am I correct?
I am taking my car back this morning as more coding is required (helped out here by DeanCorp and Maverick - thanks guys), so should I ask for the map DVD?

DJY,
Who were the installers not giving out the map CD?
My installer is in Melbourne.
You can PM me if you want.
Thanks,
Geoff.

I would have thought that YOU paid for it (the maps CD) therefor it is YOURS and not his. I'd ask nicely first and then if that didn't work TELL them that you want YOUR CD !!!!

The zenec unit comes landed to my door for $1600 and can be installd by me.
I don't have to pay for the maps from VW or pay them for their stereo (which i believe to be overpriced).
I get extra benefits with the built in amplifier and external harddrive usability.
I haven't found anywhere that i can source a set of maps for the RNS system, hence my preference for the Zenec unit which supports igo8 which does have aus maps available.
I don't believe in paying the dealer extra for equipment that isn't going to hold value, which i can source elsewhere for a lesser cost to me.
Plus i would be the only tig owner in aus to have the unit = bragging rights
I understand your desire to keep everything oem as much as possible but i have never and almost certainly will never have an oem stereo in any car i own.
Just my personal prefference.
