Granted, you will be the only one in Aus with that unit. Yes, it is your preference and rightly so. But if you think that your car will hold its value better this way, then I think you are kidding yourself.

I know it won't hold it's value as it is an add on.

However the oem stereo will not hold it's value either so I decided to go the cheaper alternative.

If you buy the car and RNS from VW you are entitled to a map disc. Otherwise, you've simply bought an RNS, and the maps are something you'll need to source yourself.

Looks like two sellers, and a total of 11 discs.

Looks like a great unit Team V - who knows, could even be better qual than the RNS, at least it has bluetooth and you can use whatever navi wear you want. Only thing I couldn't find was a reference to the usb port being able to power a hard drive?

I will do upa review when i get the unit and the car.

I did read somewhere that it supports external harddrive connection, i think it was used in a golf mk5 in the US.

ye, it will support it as far as reading it, but you might need a power supply to run the harddrive. Most usb ports can't supply enough current to run a harddrive which is why some of them have a dual usb lead (i.e. you have to plug both usb leads into two seperate ports to supply enough power, otherwise you need to plug in a power pack). I've run a little 2.5" external hard drive with both the avc9000 and the 9000-1, but have had to use a power supply to run it. Can you let me know though? Be much appreciated.

I will have to look into it when i get the car and the unit.

Will definitely let you know how it performs though.

Hopefully getting a price from VW tomorrow so the balll will start rolling after that.

I've got the media in setup, and it supports an external laptop hard drive without power issues. But, it doesn't know about NTFS, so using FAT32 the usable size is limited.

Too many choices...internal HDD, DVD, SD, ipod, USB key, USB HDD.

I got the disc with mine too.

FWIW I complained to VW about faulty disc data, stupid thing took me on massive pointless detours in NE Vic, trying to get back on the Hume would guide me to overpasses instead of an onramp. Verrrrrry annoying, we're not talking short distances and for heavens sake if I pay $3.5k for a map I expect it to be accurate.

VW were very professional and courteous handling the complaint; upshot is I get a free upgrade to v3 when it comes out Prolly won't get the disc I'd say, just an uploaded onto the hard disk jobbie at my dealer. But who cares? Very positive outcome!!

                        Now just waiting for v3...

Well... I am so p.... off with the fact that I paid so much money for it and VW are still asking another $1200 if you want a new v.3 map disc. I know VW is a premium brand here on Oz but let me tell you, it is a "common" car in Germany, nothing special. Like I said before, next time I will be only too happy to stick a TomTom on my window.

There was another thread, I thought in this forum.
I do recall this topic coming up last year though.

An ebay seller (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/RNS510-SAT-NA...item4a9df133c4) is currently selling some (V2) for a very reasonable price.

I purchased one, which has just arrived. Genuine. Arrived very quickly. Seller has nothing to do with me, but some of you might be interested.

Right now they have no dates on a new version 3 (vers.16) but when it comes out later this year, it will probably cost the same. This will be my first and last RNS510.
Mmmmm.. I was told something very similar by my dealer here in WA just this week (March 2010).

Question: Why does this seem harder than it should be? Is it really that hard to give the DVD to existing customers? Is it really that hard for VW (or whomever) to update the RNS510 map data frequently and re-issue a small piece of plastic (i.e. the DVD) to existing loyal customers for either no cost or a very small fee. This would make our driving experience the more enjoyable..

Sorry to all, maybe it's just me, but I believe the little things count and providing a car with a Sat. Nav. System with no easy way to update the map data (or update the system software) is just plain strange in today's hi-tech world, in my opinion anyways..
