    Is that using high level inputs and auto remote turnon into CH 1? Do you get sound when the engine is off?

    Yeah I'll have to get to the bottom of it next time (and maybe get it installed at an Audison Dealer - who installed yours?).

    4 Arc Minis . Where did you put them all?

    Are you running rear speakers too? I think i'll upgrade the rears next time with some Dyn 242's.

      I had FHRX install mine. Perfect Job as always.

      Three of the amps and the bitone went under the floor behind the spare wheel and the the fourth amp went in the spare wheel with a custom made holder. As for the rear speakers they are turned off i just run the fronts and the sub active

        I thought so, they've installed over 30 BitOnes so I may drive down there next time to get it sorted. There must be some tricks that aren't obvious.

        Sounds a bit like my previous setup:

        Full active setup, my midbass were getting 250W per side & the tweeters/mids getting 70W each. Next time may run semi active bridged for the tweeters/mids to give them a bit more.

          Well, I finally got the Jetta back (not for long) and I'm not happy!

          - Car is a mess with all their trimmings stuck in the carpets
          - Door mouldings not fitted back tight, so there's a gap and they took a pic and said the car came like that.
          - Both clips from rear seats broken (apparently they're single-use clips?)
          - Cover for manual boot release - the circular bit - missing
          - Drivers side moulding for the door to body had a clip broken
          - Cover for the boot (the interior part you hold to close the boot) loose. Clips won't hold.
          - Plastic part where the trunk release is not fitted properly (I took a peek and I think the clip is worn out.. already!!?)
          - Some residue on the driver's leather seat
          - Plastic piece that covers the lower part of the seatbelt on drivers side missing.
          - One of the aircon buttons scratched
          - RNS510's balance screen only has left-right (isn't this the screen with the overview of the car's seating and a cross-hair?)

          - and worst off.. it doesn't sound any better. The sub "farts" a lot. There's a control they mounted into the 'holder' on the right side of the controls but it seems to either be on or off, rather than a knob from low to high even though the knob is there! It just doesn't work.

          They're going to get a guy to come in next Thursday (so I've got to leave the car another day with them) to go over everything..and they've ordered all the clips and missing pieces from VW (has to be flown out from Sydney).

          Overall, things have been well below my expectations..the fact the system doesn't even sound right or any better for my $4000 is a farce. I hope they can sort all the problems and fix it.

          p.s. at this point, my car has less than 7000kms. I already feel like it has been raped and left for dead.

            Sorry to hear that spiff.

            There are sometimes one or two minor things that get overlooked but that just sounds sloppy. They mustn't have done many VW by the sound of it.

                I hope so too! I managed to clean the residue stain off the leather seat, and in the process found 2 missing rubber pieces for the boot. But, I also know why the cover wasnt' secure - they lost one of the metal clips..and I also found evidence of scratches on the paint (lucky it's hidden) when they tried to pry the cover back.

                Mess..

                Shavings leftover..

                My new boot liner with boot prints :p The install on the left is otherwise very clean

                I opened the boot up to take pics..and when I closed it..

                It completely fell apart. I just pried it loose and left it in the boot..

                Missing piece below the seat belt..

                This part connects the wires from the driver's door to the vehicle body. It won't clip back together because the clip is broken..

                Residue on the seats..I've pretty much cleaned it up with 7 rounds of shampooing..

                Scratches on the ac button..

                Drivers door..gap between panel and door..

                Passenger door..gap between panel and door..I think the speakers are too big. They said they had to build a mount so it wouldn't hit the window, but I think now it's just pushing too far out..

                ..and the fuel release plastic that no longer sits flush.

                I presume I'm within my rights to get them to fix all these faults at no cost to me? With the exception of cleaning..I'd rather just clean the car myself.
                Oh, and in the 30mins I was taking pics and cleaning the seat, the sub 'burped' no less than 5 times and I'm really displeased with the sound setup itself. Totally not worth $4k.

                  It's a problem that exists as the HU fires up when you unlock the car (The RNS510 has standby modes as well that stay on for approx. 20min after you leave the car which is still sending a signal to the amps and this could give you battery drain).

                  It wasn't every time but happens unless you unlock and start the car before the Bit One finishes it's turn on sequence.

                  The idea is to wire the bitone to ignition so the amps will be off when you leave the car, but then there is no sound unless the engine is on. Not really a problem but doesn't work 100% like stock.

                  I didn't get around to it but Marty recommended using a PAC SWI-CAN to interface with the CANBUS.
                  Hmm.. I wonder if this pop you hear through your speakers is the same burp I hear from my subwoofer.

                    Spiff, don't let them get away with this!

                    You have many rights, more than most are aware of.

                    If it were me, I would "insist that they remove everything (at their cost), fix all damages to your car (at their cost), and give you a full refund, 100% of your money back. Then, go elsewhere."

                    For me, if they did not do this, or wanted a fight, then I'd phone Consumer Protection (see www.docep.wa.gov.au/consumerprotection). The Consumer Protection Division of the Department of Commerce promotes consumer protection and fair trading in Western Australia by:
                    • providing information and advice to consumers and traders about their rights and responsibilities;
                    • helping consumers resolve disputes with traders;
                    • investigating complaints about unfair trading practices;
                    • prosecuting unscrupulous traders;
                    • regulating and licensing some business activities; and
                    • developing legislation that protects consumers.

                    Also, next time (if there is a next time for you) get the quote in writing AND get their terms and conditions in writing as well, which specify what they are legally responsible for and what you are responsible for, etc. This way, if you’re not happy with what they say BEFORE they start work and before you've handed over any money, then you can just go elsewhere. Also, get in writing an assurance from them that if you are NOT 100% satisfied, then they must either rectified all problems or give you your money back. You are entitled. You do have rights. Look into it!

                    Just my two bobs worth! I hope it helps, if not a little anyways...

                    • Thanks so much. I'm going to look into this and consider my options. I wonder how it might be possible to get it back to 'as before' with a 100% refund. Some things they have cut and mounted. Anyway... let's see if they can fix it to satisfaction next Thursday. If not, I might just look at the gear people on here are using and use similar, or go Dynaudio.

                      Oh. And, I am reading this thread which describes one of my problems exactly. The speakers I got for the fronts were apparently the better of the front/rear set, so I wanted to use the balance to fade to the front and test them out. But instead of this...

                      ... which would be similar to the screen I used to see (not exactly the same but close..with the overview and crosshair), all I see is a single balance - left to right bar. No fader. To top it off, turning left makes all sound go right, and vice versa. Those idiots don't even know their left from right and didn't even bother checking. Wth!

                      But my question is, does installing audio equipment turn this balance screen automatically off, or is it because they wired stuff wrongly? Because reading that thread indicates I'd have to turn this feature back on in vagcom. I don't think the audio shop had a vagcom to muck around with (a nightmare if they did because who knows what else they changed), and I certainly don't have a vagcom.

                      • I would have thought unless they physically changed coding with VAGCOM that the unit should be fine. However, if they are only using 2 channels and then splitting further down the chain into rear / front, then the RNS510 will I imagine only see the 2 channels in use and respond accordingly, only giving a balance control. However, that is supposition, I am not 100% certain. Did it have fader on the RNS510 before you went in? If it did, then I would suggest that you can ask them to sort it out!

                        I have a fader as per the photo above, and I have aftermarket sound equipment installed.

                          Yes. I did have the fader similar to the photo above. I remember thinking the visual representation of balance/fader was such a nice touch. So, the system will change itself simply to how the wiring gets set up? (and not to mention, they didn't even get left-right correct)

                          • Sounds like you need to code it again using VCDS to get the fader working, but sounds like they wired up left-right channels incorrectly.

                              No access to one of those. Anyway, I'll get them to sort it out as they're the ones who mucked it up. By the way, in post 93, the first picture and second picture have different subs. What was in the first one? the one that's flush. Why did you change it?

                              I've read and re-read this thread from start to finish and taken more notes.

                              I went to speak to A-One today (in Perth) and the guy did have a look at my system and chat, made some recommendations (Alpine's) if they were to do it. They couldn't really test the system out without the fader control. Suggested that the reason the door panels on both sides weren't fitting properly were because the baffle was too deep and it was pushing out. (depth is around 62mm from one of the online reviews). Suggested that the custom subbox might have too much flex (is there a min thickness?). Suggested there wasn't a way around the pop for the sub but he would probably need to speak to others on the east who have experience working the rns510.

                              Anyway, I'm going to give the first shop one last chance to fix the problems.

                                The sub that sits flush was an 8" Image Dynamics then upgraded to a 10" Image Dynamics IDQ sub. The box is bigger and takes up more room but still leaves almost all of the boot space. You'll prob get more rattles with the 10" but I tend to keep it at a balanced level not fully sick low bass. Upgraded as i'd improved the rest of my system too and it gives more authority.
