I have an issue with the Instrument Cluster on my 2010 Passat R36. As you can see from the photo the tachometer needle is not illuminated. This is an intermittent problem - usually at the start of the day it is blue and then during the day the light will go off, only to return the next day. Kamold thought it might be faulty surface mounted leds, but I took it to an instrument specialist who couldn't find a problem - the led light for the tacho needle worked when he tested it. He thought it might be a power supply issue. Is it possibly a loose pin in the instrument cluster plug? Or something else? Any suggestions?

LEDs can be heat sensitive failing when they get warm2013 Touareg V8 TDI R line and spanner on my sons Mk4 R32 -
Do you think the solution is to change the offending LED lights? The instrument specialist who looked at my cluster isn't prepared to help me - he thinks it is a module issue. Everything else in the instrument cluster - lights, dials, etc - works perfectly.

Only three components run those, a resistor, a transistor and the led itself, with the other side working it means the MCU is working to turn it on.

Yes the cluster should be able to be repaired, there are not many things that issue could be caused by overall, if you like maze puzzles trace out the LED circuit here
. worse case the PCB can be swapped with a B7 cluster as the R36 dials are the rare part.
