Check your PM - no need for beer!!
          Don
Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

          • Just curious guys can you update firmware/software for the ECU with the cable

I got the engine light coming up its "08213 , P2105, VW GOLF INTAKE MANIFOLD FLAP POSITION SENSOR FAULT IMPROBABLE "

I read somewhere that if you update the software it will fix the bugs and get rid of that reading

Sounds like you need the manifold not an update

Yes I read regarding manifold problems

I have no idle problems I clear the code drive it and sometimes it takes a couple of hours then pops back up

                  • For anyone looking for a GENUINE Ross-tech VAGCOM/VCDS on the cheap side AND don't need the latest updates then check this out from Bryon Bay based tuning software company "Total Car Diagnostics"

VAG-COM VCDS 2015 - OBD2 Diagnostic Cable & Software (for VAG Cars: VW, AUDI, SEAT, SKODA)

I bought the above for $67US and can confirm that it does work with my MKIV Bora 4mo. The Ross-tech cable & VCDS software has NOT been barred but is working as it should.

This is a legit cable and legit VCDS version that is LIMITED to only Version 12.2 and cannot be upgraded. If you need VCDS Version 14, you can pay an extra $30US.

Fantastic saving compared to the $500 cost to buy a VCDS cable from Ross-tech direct. Comes with a 1 year money-back guarantee from an Australian based company.

                    Bloody brilliant.

                    • Why will you need the update if it has the same access to different functions of the vehicle?

Is the update for later vehicles ?

I have a golf GTI mk6 will I need the updated vcds 14 version ?

If it sounds too good to be true and all that...

The Ross Tech cables have a chip with built in serial number that "unlocks" the software to do all the things. The other hack versions of the cable run the older software that doesn't need the chip and even then only offer limited functionality. These sound like a more up to date version of a clone, which to me still sounds dodgy as all hell unless they have some agreement with Ross-Tech. After all, you're paying for the ongoing R&D on the software, not just the piece of physical cable.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I bought the same cable with VCDS 14.10 from total car diagnostics, it works like a charm, but it cost me US$ 97... I don't think it is a genuine Ross-Tech cable, the seller says that as well, but it is top quality and the software is activated (I believe the software is not cracked)
By the way, if anyone one needs a scan in Sydney North Shore, happy to provide that for free... I have zero coding experience though

                              • I come from Byron and it is interesting to hear about this mob. I am really interested in buying a VCDS cable and this is tempting. I do have something in the back of my head though going why is it cheap? I would even get the version 14 upgrade but does that then lock me into that version for the rest of my life? Or is there continual updates that you can buy? Very interesting though, and tempting.
