Then you could blow smoke up....into engine bays to find leaks...

After making myself a bit sick and with head spins after trying the cigar smoke blowing method to find the leak, I took the intake back off and had a good look at everything. Pulled off and inspected the vacuum pump, cleaned all mating surfaces and put everything back together.
Found that the single M10 bolt at the back of the intake was cross threaded so it was causing the whole alignment to slightly skewed. Cleaned up the thread and hole and now no more leak! Thankfully was something simple/stupid.

great success! i did consider getting a vaping friend over to try blow some clouds
ill pull the intake for a detailed look if this other MAF doesnt do anything.

i am wondering if by me just deciding to clean the MAF i actually created a problem......looking at the cross sectional design of the gen 6 MAF there is potential to wash crud deep into it and there isnt a clear shot to get it out, the actual sensor unit is pretty well bonded to the housing too, i have it a bit of a tweak and it didnt budge.

Bit of an update.
Received my OBDeleven.
Getting 2 engine faults recurring.

P119A fuel pressure sensor malfunction.
"upper limit exceeded"



P1647 check coding/versions of control modules in drive train
"implausible signal"

I clear this and the engine stops rev hunting

The second code is pretty much constant, the first comes and goes a bit

Thoughts?
Fuel rail pressure 40 bar at idle
Fuel pump at idle 4.8 bar

Fuel rail pressure 4000rpm in park 67bar

First fault is probably the sensor itself. I'd first try just unplugging it, check/clean contacts and reseat. If the fault returns replace the sensor:

Second fault indicates there is another control module on powertrain canbus that is not correctly coded.
Do you have a fault in your ABS module?

Ok yep that other ecu fault is because you need to run steering angle sensor calibration.

so ive got the clock spring assembly apart and everything looks ok, no visible damage except when im pinning out the ribbon there is 2 pins apart from the rest ive assumed are CAN but they are bridged.
generally that's not a good thing, the ribbon checks out, no breakages in itself.the only bit is the moulded plug where i cannot see whats happening.

Update, replacement bits fitted and working, had an intermittent fuel pressure fault but it boiled down to poorly seated inlet manifold gasket, such a minor leak still caused faults.

Pays to double check, could have saved myself some time. Was bloody sure I got it right the first time but you get that.
