Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Golf R down pipe ceramic coat or not

    Guys

Have just taken delivery of my down pipe and want to get your experienced thoughts on weather it is worth ceramic coating it before installation.

    Cheers

Golf R down pipe ceramic coat or not

I used to have a ceramic coated downpipe on my R - personally i wouldnt spend the money again. Never noticed any difference in heat/performance, and despite costing approx $250 for the coating, it started to chip/peel off in spots within about 6-8months of street use.

Ive now got a different down pipe and i just left this one raw stainless steel.

The only reason you'd do it is if you're worried about melting everything within the vicinity of the downpipe.

If it were me, I'd fit it as is, and maybe keep an eye on things.

Out of interest - which down pipe did you choose?

Lucas_R do you know if I will need a o2 sensor spacer to avoid a cel fault?

Most likely - unless you have the tune modified to take this into account.

The 42DD is made of mild steel. I would get it coated just to stop it rusting away on you. Unless you want to change your dump pipes as ofter as lucas does[emoji6]

Otherwise it doesnt make a big difference. If you have a tune you wont need to worry about the o2 sensor.

Actually a few tunes still don't remove the cat efficiency check so you would need a spacer for that BUT I've seen some cars do very weird things when being fed an incorrect signal re trims and you don't have it as a failsafe anymore.

I've decided to stop coating our pipes now as we're using a heavy gauge material anyway and I just don't think people want to pay the extra on top anymore. If you use the not cheap Cerakote product its very good and yes the cheaper crap usually falls off pretty quickly.

just tie them out of the way as they will sit on the dump due to the radius of the single bend otherwise
