Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • What information will using a VAGCOM cable show?

    Hi All

A bit of a noob question which I've been unable to find a definitive answer to.

Would using a VAGCOM cable allow me to get a read out of all the historical faults generated on my car? Specifically when oil warnings occurred, blinker faults etc... Or is only current faults?

    Thanks in advance

It will read current and historic codes up until the previous time the fault codes were erased.

Thanks for the information. It looks like this should give me what I need.

Next question, would anyone with this cable be available in Sydney to assist? I posted a request on another thread, VAG-COM Scanning but havent received any offers. Financial compensation for your time is open for discussion.

        Thanks again..

            Just remember the key point:

Meaning if the fault has not reoccured it will not show up if it was cleared. To be clear you don't get a history of every fault ever, just the "current" ones.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Faults can disappear by themselves as well depending on the fault severity, if they don't happen again for a number of trips. This is the reset counter.
