The 1.8TSI was the launch engine for the EA888 block which was introduced with the Audi A4 B7 in 2008 & under the Golf nameplate in 2.0L guise with the Mk6 GTI in 2009. Australia had it as part of the 2007 Octavia line-up before a lot of the other markets (eg: United Kingdom). Unfortunately, the original spec was manual only, so a lot of folk overlooked the 1.8TSI until the DSG option was made available in 2009(?).

Alright i am back.
Have had communication with Superchips UK and one of their Staff. He has said that my Bluefin device (although i specified Automatic) auto responded to receive a manual file.
The first file I had with the violent shudders and chugs was a manual file. The second file i had was the same map as the first, however this time for a DSG transmission.
He sent me a file last night which he had worked on to smooth out the torque delivery in the specified RPM range which i have said numerous times on here (1500-4000rpm) and it still had big flat spots in it.
I am awaiting another file, after telling him in every detail what the tune is doing and how the car reacts etc.
He seems to think that it is making more power than expected and that is triggering the electronic torque limit of the transmission. When it hits a flat spot i can hear the BOV/turbo/wastegate flutter as it holds the car back, which he said is the ECU retarding the ignition to cope with the torque.
once the revs get up past 4000rpm the thing just absolutely takes off and revs free and hard into the redline. it is only right in the meat of the torque under heavy load that it is holding it back.
At the moment i dont know what to think to be honest. is my car a real good'n from the factory? is there something wrong with my car? is there something wrong with the tunes they are sending me?
I asked if this would be causing damage to the engine or anything and he said no. i want to believe him, i really do.

/pats M6 that really doesn't care how much torque goes through it...... waits for clutch to cry "enough" at 100,000km.
I doubt it is doing any harm but my concern is what is happening when the OEM map is installed? If the tune has highlighted a weakness, then you are wasting time trying to smooth out the power delivery until the other issue is attended to.
Exactly how many Nm is the torque limit?
At this point, I'd be wondering if a tune where (if there is a problem) the diagnosis can be less at arms length might be the answer. While you still have the option of a refund.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

it "feels" absolutely fine when back on the OEM tune. I have driven my fair share of cars and have a fair mechanical sympathy for them so i cant feel when something isn't right usually. have never had any signs or symptons of anything wrong with the car in stock tune. I'm not sure what the limit is for the 7spd, surely someone on here will know??
That is my big dilemma i'm afraid. Although my supplier has said that he will get me sorted one way or another. A mate of mine has a mk5 gti DSG with bluefin which he had done about 18 months ago. Was really smooth on partial throttle and full throttle , but a little rough on medium throttle . He just assumed it was a trade off he'd have to accept . After about 11 months an error code came up when uploading the bluefin file. Turned out he'd been driving around with a manual file all that time! A DSG file was uploaded and the car has driven like a dream since. Seems the manual/ DSG cock up occurs quite a bit.

Pretty much back to where i was a few posts back, Just to clarify on your comment about Superchips and errors, i havent ever seen this in my dealings, the file sucked from the car is the dna for the tune file , thats that. Not sure how this one has happened, anyway back to the top, i would have it checked standard, logged by someone who knows what they are doing, ive blown air mass meters, coils and evein my own A4 ate the air mass meter, pretty much due to it being happy to run standard, but tune it and demand 100% of the components itll soon find a weak spot. I mention logging here, i would also check it tuned to see where its at. Not sure why you are dealing with Peter mind you, although he is our main rep, we have a dealer in Sydney hands on and not in another country, thats the whole idea of having dealers here. That is complete utter bull****. The guy doesn't even know whats wrong with their tuning and the car has flat spots and not going right, it could be heavily over boosting it could be running dangerously lean - They don't know so how could they say it wont cause any damage!
A car running lean (pending on how lean) is burning away at your pistons whether they want to believe that or not.
And, these cases where the wrong files are sent to the cars is complete madness! No quality control there at all and the tuners should pay attention to the customers requests

When the car is back in stock mode (no Bluefin installed), does the Check Engine Light still come on? I agree that the answer to the pinging/ misfire question was a bit hows it going. In my experience this case is a first ive heard of so ill reserve a comment on the quality control. Now if this was my customer i would be checking where the flaw was, logging standard and logging tuned even if i have to dyno the thing. To the Op i have emailed Peter in NZ and he assures me Uk are onto it. Hey guys,
Have been sent another modified file. this one is "better", ie only one hesitation as it "hits boost" (read below).
However, i cant help but feel he has adjusted the lower rev range to stock or less than stock. Just doesnt feel as free as what it does in standard tune.
i am only going by feel here remember as i have no idea how to log and read a data logging file, it feels as if he has wound back the lower half of the rev range to stock, and then left the top of the rev range as it was originally. there is a massive "step" as it hits 4000rpm and it takes off. (this is where there is a small hesitation as it really hits power)
Jmac, where is this dealer in sydney? This needs to be dealt with hands on, I've had enough now.
Peter said he would be in Wollongong on Monday and he would come see me/go down there to get it sorted but i cant get the time off work.
